I'm beginning to suspect that laptop manufacturers are self sabotaging their own performance with bloat software just to push for the next generation of laptop in the "cloud" aka client pcs.
15 fucking minutes for a brand new laptop to boot while it only has 500 hours of life.

@giantbug @bigl0af ok worth noting, on how misinformed the author is: they're recommending Telegram which *does not support end to end encryption* for group chats. Literally "hey your iPhone is vulnerable to this hardware exploit so switch to this app that doesn't even use end to end encryption"

@giantbug @bigl0af to quote a rando on hacker news:

> If the FBI has your phone, it's not your phone anymore.

Recommend checking HN to see what informed discussion about this looks like: news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2

@shebang not you toooo... this FUD is silly. This is all people just parroting headlines and cargo culting security

@giantbug @bigl0af "Deep state backed" let's hope these people don't find out where TOR and the internet come from, or they'll really freak out πŸ˜†

The best part, and how you know the author of the article either doesn't know what they're talking about or has another agenda: after all the just-so-slightly misinformed fearmongering, they go on to recommend Telegram as an alternative. Ya know the FSB sponsored app with worse cryptography than signal. Somebody didn't talk to any Security engineers

@giantbug @bigl0af I find this round of Signal FUD to be particularly entertaining. The exploit mentioned is a physical iPhone exploit that nearly every app on your iPhone is vulnerable to, and requires physical access to your phone -- if the FBI gets their hands on your stuff, you're likely already fuct. The point of Signal is to avoid the dragnet, not protect you from hardware exploits -- I'd be shocked if Threema et al don't have the same issue.
