@misslav Gab is a social network very much like Mastodon and Twitter. People who are banned from Twitter flee to Gab and most of those people are right wing. Jack Dorsey, who owns Twitter and is himself quite left wing, is attempting a purge of ideological opponents on his site. Recently Gab has announced that it will be switching from using it's own software to using Mastodon and will likely become part of the Fediverse.

@igeljaeger A lot of that is probably the pervasive autism in American society.

tbh Im sorta glad germans kinda know when or when not to take each other seriously. Americans lack this

To those who are concerned about the potential influx users I have just one question: do we want to increase the relevance of this platform? The fact is if mainstream adoption is the end goal then you have to accept that the will have some distasteful people in it. I'm of the opinion that it's a price worth paying.

@misslav @purism I've noticed the Librem Chat app has been synchronizing on my phone for a long time.

@igeljaeger The broader meaning definitely went zooming over my head lol. I definitely agree though. Some people want to be unhappy for a variety of reasons.

@igeljaeger As long as you are contented with your life that is all that matters for it is only yours to live 😊

I may not have a lot of friends, hobbies outside of the nerdsphere or any romantic relationships. But life is good

@Jami Does Jami make use of the Matrix protocol or is it a fundamentally different technology?

Here are the things you are allowed to be proud about:
- sexuality (something you didnt have to earn)
- being a shade of brown (something you were born with)
- having a full pokemon dex (something you earned)

Things you arent allowed to be proud about:
- everything else

@xeno @igeljaeger Jokes aside, pride in your sexuality is retarded, specially for people trying to convince others that it's a normal thing, you're asking for people to shit on you if you start going on about it.

As for racial pride, every race has several examples of holding supremacy AND of being slaves or oppressed minority populations, so it's just as fair for any of them to be proud of their heritage.

I don't argue that some inbred hick cruising on his truck yelling about how much he hates niggers and how much better he is than them is pathetic, but a ghetto black cruising on his lowrider yelling "fuck whites black pride" is equally pathetic. Both of them are trying to justify and paint themselves better with no merit at all other than hate speech against another group, because they have nothing to actually be proud of, they're both scum. A normal person faced with someone shitting on their race however, has as much of a right to be proud of it and of their ancestors' achievement regardless of which race they belong to.

Basically, gay/straight/black/white/whatever pride is bullshit unless as a direct response to someone insulting you, only creates further segregation, and ends in nothing good. A single gay pride march does more to push neutral people towards siding against them than a thousand evangelical preachers could. It will always look like a "My group is better than your group" statement if paraded without direct provocation. That's what "straight pride" is about, it's a "fuck off, you're not better than us because you sleep with your own gender, shut up about it or we'll start doing the same to you" statement.

To a person that doesn't adhere to the ideology, gay/black/whatever pride looks just as hateful and cringey as you see the american white pride, a bunch of jerks that have no redeeming qualities trying to pretend they're better than everyone else. It's fair for straight people to start doing the same if they're tired of decades of having to put up with it.

@pbandkate@radical.town You don't know anything about my views and your statement proves my point exactly. I will read about it to see if it is as cringe-inducing as it seems. I don't think McCarthy-like lunatics like you realize that you're actually helping extremist movements like white supremacists when you abuse terms to where they lose all meaning.

@Torie@todon.nl never went away. It simply changed form. Meet the new system same as the old.

@pbandkate@radical.town Are these actual white supremacists? You'll have to excuse my incredulity as that term has been thrown around and misused so much these days.
