In a future with much more expensive oil, which do you think will be more likely:

1. All food will be shipped in from far away and most people will starve to death.

2. Food will be grown locally and specialty/regional foods will be grown in highly-insulated greenhouses.

I think #2 is far more likely.

@nugger @confederatehobo @ImperialAgent @Ottovonshitpost @teknomunk @jeffcliff

remember back in the 60's when they claimed we had only 40 years of oil left, how'd that turn out

@nugger @societyoutcasts @EvilSandmich @confederatehobo @ImperialAgent @Ottovonshitpost @teknomunk @jeffcliff Also people take "collapse" for granted and they also take for granted that the current elites will be displaced. America +100 years is more likely to be ruled by drug cartels than by White nationalists. As for the near future the current power structure is likely to remain in power, but with diminished scope.
A circulation of elites doesn't happen as a matter of course, it only happens when a more competent, better organized group of elites deliberately displace the old elites.
We are fucked
@nugger @societyoutcasts @EvilSandmich @confederatehobo @ImperialAgent @Ottovonshitpost @teknomunk @jeffcliff I would say it slowly dissolved more than fell.
Rome faded away until Europe sprang from ts bones.
The History of Civilization in Europe by Francois Guizot is where I got this idea from

Not a lot of people seem to remember that. 2008 had high gas prices supposedly caused by Russian hackers or something. Eventually it did come down. I remember that gas was cheap at the beginning of the "global pandemic". Real cheap

@Ottovonshitpost @confederatehobo @ImperialAgent @teknomunk @nugger @jeffcliff

Yes, but again that has happened before and people discovered new resources to use, or made improvements in technology to get existing resources cheaper

@nugger @confederatehobo @ImperialAgent @Ottovonshitpost @teknomunk @jeffcliff

That depends on what type you're referring to. Cloth was made from different materials. Different foods come from different areas.

@EvilSandmich @confederatehobo @ImperialAgent @Ottovonshitpost @teknomunk @nugger @jeffcliff

That's not happening where I am. Eggs from local sources are still 2-3x the price of store bought

And very true. Prices around here for "local grass-fed raised with love" ground beef costs around $14/lb.
