@sir @xj9 What's wrong with functional programming? Or is it actually just the programmers you have an issue with?

@penguin42 @sir What do you mean "in the past"? You think you have rights now? LOL

Again I point to George Carlin's astute study of the issue:

youtube.com/watch?v=m9-R8T1SuG

@sir When the thing turns round and says "fuck you and your rights, I'm going to Titan to build my own civilisation and you ain't invited" and actually goes and does that then it's worthy of human rights. Of course, a corollary of this is that human rights are irrelevant and the question is meaningless. (2/2)

@sir You're thinking about this all wrong. If a thing is something that we humans "afford" rights to then it isn't worthy of human rights. The point at which it becomes worthy of "human" rights is the point at which it stops giving a fuck about what we are willing to "afford" it and does its own thing regardless. (1/2)

I'm still waiting BTW, for Software Heritage to provide a way for a git repo not on github to be archived.

I've been waiting for years.

Currently the only way I have to get code into their archive is to get the code into Debian.

"Considering that it's based on AOSP, I'm pretty sure Volla OS will have to be open sourced. Don't quote me on that though; I might be very wrong."

AOSP is released under the Apache license which is a permissive license and doesn't require releasing the source code of binaries. I would be very surprised if the Volla people released the source code for their OS, particularly considering that their software is basically all they bring to the table.

@vrsmd No, I don't remember that. I don't recall ever hearing of such an idea before reading this.

@InspectorCaracal Ah this is clearly where the Fediverse falls down. I can see no such reply. I expect the person you replied to has blocked my Mastodon server and hence I cannot see either their reply or your reply to it.

@InspectorCaracal Can I suggest, in line with achieving your goal, that it might be an idea to say where on the planet the house stands?

@fitheach @krozruch I meant the country is surrounded by water with no land bridge to the rest of Europe.

@fitheach @krozruch I never said 'anti-Europe', I said 'sense of "otherness"'.

@fitheach @krozruch I don't think the cause of Britons' sense of "otherness" is so subtle, I think it's quite plain: our country is physically separate from the rest of Europe.

@zentauro @sir You don't. With C++11 you can also do:

for (auto& comp: complaints) { comp.meh(); }

@sir for (auto i = complaints.begin(); i != complaints.end(); ++i) { i->meh(); }

i do not like the current internet term for works of creative output: ''content''

it is a term that denotes commodification and capitalist marketing

please stop devaluing the cultural importance of people's creative work by referring to it as ''content''
