Never understand why anyone would want to use Visual Studio for anything but Windows development. It is such an enormous piece of shit, and the people who recommend it must not have ever known anything better. ( Same goes for Windows)

@lwriemen only played with it when I got it free from a job. The other department had shutdown so I raided software and it was unopened Visual Interdev suite at the time. 😈 Bloated for sure.

@pkimpton I can understand allegiance to your first positive development experience. ~30 years ago I was ready to pledge allegiance to Borland's Turbo Pascal IDE. :-)

Since then, I've been exposed to so many micro vendor-specific ones, IBM Visual Age (which basically became Eclipse), VS, and a number of IDE-like editors (e.g., Codewright). All of the IDEs are bloated, and after I started work on *nix workstations, I tend to prefer stand-alone components. My main dev tool is Vim.

@lwriemen Anything I tinker with for coding when I'm in the mood is either nano, xed, or Atom. But that's about it. Still haven't learned vim fully. I'm using Cmus for music which has vim-like commands so I'm getting used to it somewhat.
