Today I officially launched my second business. Well registered, not much there yet. But the goal is to help small business owners to make use of free software as good as possible and get them away from solutions that lock them in. The homepage and everything else will be up within the next couple of weeks in time for the official launch, but I figured I give the fediverse an early notice….

@sammorrowdrums @cassidyjames On iPhone if you "Add to Home Screen", I find pixelfed functions just like a native app would. I honestly cannot tell it is any different from other native apps on the phone.

@obsolete29 Yes, I dual boot elementary (based on Ubuntu) on a 2015 MBP. Works fantastically. Linux compatibility does vary a bit by model. But I wrote a blog post installation guide for what I did on the 2015 model blog.senderolinux.com/installi

@artificialphilosopher nice, though honestly all I really want to know is what messaging services these authors use themselves.

@calebccff @normandc @postmarketOS maybe it’s just my mastodon client, but the hyperlink doesn’t include the last parenthesis and thus looks broken. Anyone using the link make sure it include that last parenthesis

@okpierre I know some won't agree, but I think the Fedi needs more monetization. I'm not talking VC funding or anything, but just creative ways for projects to monetize so that they can be sustained. So that developers and maintainers can develop expertise in the technology, and do this as more than a hobby. I mean nothing wrong with people contributing as a hobby. But being able to dedicate more time would allow more great things to be created in the Fediverse.

@pixelfed is a federated social image sharing platform, similar to Instagram (and promising!) that uses the ActivityPub protocol (like Mastodon).

Such a great read. "Secret codes. Legal threats. Betrayal. How one couple built a device to fix McDonald’s notoriously broken soft-serve machines—and how the fast-food giant froze them out." wired.com/story/they-hacked-mc

Hi @cwebber @fossandcrafts I recently listened to the Foss & Crafts episode 27 on Game Design and Social Systems. I thought you might enjoy this article by a BU professor about how Mario Kart can teach us to reduce world poverty - from the mechanic where in last place you get powerful items while in first place you just get banana peels, in order to keep everyone in the race.

@kev thanks for the insight. Love your blog and writing btw

@kev Question for you, what software do you use for your blog at kevq.uk/blog/ ? Is it wordpress, and do you have thoughts on wordpress vs write.as?
