#Chromium (and #Chrome) begins phasing-out Manifest v2.

This means, among other things, that uBlock Origin is about to be disabled in Chrome. Google will choose a different extension to recommend but it can not be as effective as #uBlock Origin.

Following #Google's example, may I instead recommend you switch to #Firefox.

Firefox will continue to support Manifest v2, and consequently uBlock Origin and other extensions that can not be implemented with Manifest v3.

Happy browsing.

Russia ditching its flat income tax feels like streaming services morphing back into traditional cable networks in the sense that it’s a real incentive to return to old illegal habits (tax evasion / copyright piracy).

Created this after reading conversation in comments below some tech article somewhere. Someone mentioned "surfing the #internet sewer" and I really liked that phrase.

Probably the most cynical but also widespread manipulation is when #Hamas supporters post photos from #Syria presenting them as photos from #Gaza and #Palestine. Which is quite popular trick, because Assad’s merciless war on Syrian civilians produced thousands of dramatic photos of ruined towns and people bombed, executed or poisoned with chemical weapons. If you search for “killed Arab civilians” to feed your daily posting schedule, you will mostly find photos from Syria. Most absurdly, people like Jackson Hinkle support Assad and Russia and condemn killing of Arabs in Palestine at the same time…

Hey, Mastodon … I’m trying to track down an #AppleNewton developer named Stephen A. Cronin.

He worked at #AMD and operated a software company called TapTech based out of Austin, Texas in the late 90s. I’ve managed to contact his former software partner, Francis Preve … but Francis lost touch with Stephen years ago.

Together they released a sequencer program for #NewtonOS called NR404 and I’m hoping the source code still exists somewhere.

Boosts appreciated.

…it's also connected to an amp and has cmus running on it, so I use it as a digital music player (that 5 Tb drive comes in handy), and I have a web remote for cmus too — so I can control it from phones and other such devices without having to resort to ssh, it has minidlnad running on it — so I can watch movies directly from it on DLNA-capable devices, such as abovementioned TV.
And now it hosts a dedicated ioquake3 server with CPMA too!
All that on just 512 megabytes of RAM 😲

Post sent using tut from an olde EfikaMX smart top machine.
I think I might be among the few still using one of these — and I actually use it for a lot of things: it hosts a squid proxy (together with privoxy and tor to access the network), acts as a file server (it has a 5 Tb USB drive attached to it, it had a second 1,5 Tb one — but that one died), hosts my Gemini capsule, a web remote for Samsung TV that I cobbled together in Python…

I use "Forget Me Not" extension in Firefox and I otherwise have cookies cleaned up on exit, so I only use private windows for one-off empty sessions and in private mode, I don't use uBO — to avoid figuring out what I have to allow to prevent the page I might need to open one time from breaking.
And I've just tried opening YouTube in private window — not only it shows ads, but it attempt to inject them EVERY FIVE seconds (!!!) 😱
I can't watch videos like this!
