Just rebooted to upgrade to newer kernel.
cat /proc/version → old kernel
WTF? 🤨
TBH it did look suspicious when it didn't prompt me for gpg password
Did I just *forget* to actually reboot it after logging off? 🙃

> PCOfficina sets what might seem like some quite high bars for the equipment that it refurbishes and issues. Its minimum spec is a Core i3 processor or equivalent, eight gigs of ram, and a 128GB SATA drive – ideally an SSD

Damn, most computers I still find usable do not even meet their spec to be considered 'trashware' 😂

I don't know why they sleep there. They are allowed to sleep anywhere except the desk and it's pretty hot, but they still do it 😸
They probably got used to it when they were younger and still enjoy it from time to time.

I can also use this old ThinkPad to run some nice software in Linux like Lagrange here. Oh my, it's so versatile! 🤪
No, unfortunately it is not, Intel Wireless 2100 kernel module is too buggy, all the devices use the same IRQ, in Windows it kinda works, but in Linux it causes "Fatal interrupt. Restarting Firmware" error upon association. It will still connect to the network in a few minutes, but it's not exactly the reliability everyone wants and on waking from sleep you have to do it again 😩

Okay, so there is this browser called Mypal based on a relatively modern (like 68-78) Firefox that runs in Windows XP.
I can Fedi on an old ThinkPad T40 🤪

It's Bloomsday, my du^Wgentlme^W a-ah, whatever!

I am a fan of Joyce, but always forget about it. Well, not today!
The only other time I remembered about it on 16th, not several days later, I even went to an Irish pub in Moscow, no one was celebrating and no one seeming was even aware. Well, I got drunk and had fun anyway 🥴

I did try placing a tiny piece of lead on a power plug and putting that into socket when I was young – didn't look good.
But should it really be this bad with this thing? It's like 12V 1,5 amperes or something. Also, hard to believe that these adapters aren't protected against short circuiting 🤔

As for the music, you can download the album in it's entirety for free here: archive.org/details/acp056_red
This is very close to the music I used to make myself, I usually prefer darker sound, this one is mostly lighthearted, but good nonetheless.
The rest of Acroplane's roster is interesting too! When I was looking for the link, I was quite surprised to discover them still being active and having newer releases on Band Camp.

Damn, I have missed the perfect opportunity to post this! Well, better late than never. It was actually this track that sparked recent resurgence of my interest in Ted's life. I've even re-read half of Industrial Society and Its Future while living in the country during COVID summer, mostly alone and with very few utilities: cold water unsuitable for drinking and even electricity wasn't always available — a very fitting atmosphere. I've been in the mood to start writing my own manifesto 😅

Had to put them on the bed to have supper and… What's this? Whose paw is that? My cats manage to get even the napping wrong — very gifted 😸

Talking to machines and they talk right back to ya
Bloodsucking parasites not like Dracula
Glass full of predators, now you're getting targeted
Soul bargaining, now they're cooking up your spirit
Fuck the recipe, I don't even want to hear it
Hell's kitchen — no angels interfering
Real life chef dice the onion no tears
Slow beyond measure, wise beyond years

TBH I don't know why this guy isn't on Fedi — with all his pop culture and videogame references he'd fit right in 😄

There is a goth looking girl with violet hair, you know like the one on that VA-11 Hall-A game cover, sitting in front of my apartment building waiting for her cab.
She has a Fender combo amp sitting next to her on the bench, a bass one or probably a big guitar one. And I think I've heard some guitar sounds about half an hour ago. But she doesn't have any instrument on her! Looks suspicious! 🤨

RARBG got shut down?! 😲
How am I supposed to "have Netflix at home" now?

@threat Welcome aboard! Glad you like it. Getting Void to run on this machine was fun and it mostly works now. A pity I didn't share my progress more, in fact, last Friday I really wanted to, but that single malt scotch got to me first🥴
Maybe I should do a longer post on it on Gemini (I do have that capsule for a reason, right?) and share a patch set. These netbooks used to have a viable community and it's nice that having only ½G RAM it's capable of running relatively up-to-date s/w

Okay, now it's running Void and Linux kernel 6.3 to boot! Illegal instruction occurred because some packages in Void (surprisingly, including gcc) redefine CFLAGS set in common/cross-profiles, this is why even basic stuff like procps-ng gets built broken with wrong ones.
Now I'm in the process of making a build template for accelerated X server for Tegra: github.com/grate-driver/xf86-v
Cross-building is sure complex, some such packages are marked as nocross in Void. Well, I can always build natively 😁
