Ой, мой двоюродный брат по этой теме тоже дико угорал! Но они видео через торренты обменивались, при чём не на торрент.ру, а заняли раздел на каком-то англоязычном форуме, хотя сообщество было русскоязычным — жаль не спросить уже.
Да и не для всех это — иметь компьютер, который не жалко будет держать включённым чтобы раздавать это всё дальше.

I think they are blocking YT in Russia — there were some news that the ban was lifted recently, but I never checked whether this is true myself. I'll see what I can do 😏

True! And I tend to forget that not everyone uses 10+ y.o. hardware like I do: I would kill for saving that extra minute on encoding. Man, I unironically sometimes do video editing with ffmpeg — in Windows too! 🤣

Maybe it has to do with whether is country is a popular tourist destination. In countries with a steady tourist flow people are more used to the outsiders and see then as an opportunity: to have good time, earn some money maybe — rather than a threat 🤷

Sometimes I start thinking to myself: maybe I'm too paranoid to expect that from people? But then I remember all these stories, sometimes firsthand experiences from people whom I have no reasons not to trust, and even my own experiences — hardly tragic, but easy to extrapolate — and I'm like: nah, better safe than… waking up without a kidney in a rundown shed I see for the first time 😅
