Giga… Chad? 🤔
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad
> Chad, officially the Republic of Chad, is a landlocked country located at the crossroads of North and Central Africa. It is bordered by Libya to the north, Sudan to the east, the Central African Republic to the south, Cameroon to the southwest, Nigeria to the southwest (at Lake Chad), and Niger to the west.
> Niger to the west

Besides, with big-name publisher — true, you'd get ripped off in the long run, but you might secure the much needed seed money — so you can dedicate more time to honing your writing skill. That's why many amateur writers still go for it.

@gemlog
True, you can self-publish — you can even small print run of your book, it's not that expensive today.
But going the independent route and making it financially viable requires lots of self-promotion, in most cases it means you have to become somewhat of a social-media celebrity — not everyone's cup of tea.

@nm0i
That is true — from my background I have a few acquaintances who at least used to work for these companies, most probably still do — it's a decent career. Due to centralisation — these companies are few, and them relying on consistent data, their forecasts often become self-fulfilling prophecies, as they have considerable market influence of their own. Enterprises often hire them to have access to that, and of course for financial audit and such.
No tarot deck can beat that 😄

Threads like this are particularly appalling: mstdn.social/@firecat/11300066
Someone went into the trouble of making open hardware available to you in a very attractive package and you find it appropriate to complain they didn't make it cheaper than a vendor locked-in product from an international corporation with planned obsolescence baked in… Well, to each their own I suppose 🤷

@romin
What are these "mitigations" people keep talking about? 😏
Apple never cared enough to issue even the microcode updates for the old Mac Pros: "It's EoL, so it's your problem now, tehe 😜"
Of course I can always enjoy retropollinarius, courtesy of Linus Törvalds or even Microsoft® Mitigations™… with Total Recall™… powered by Autopilot™! But none of it makes much sense.

Trve! But it was also a metaphor for conformance in general. See, I'm getting all philosophorical here…

@romin @hispanicweeb
> I refuse to refuse
Sorry, that didn't sound right, what I meant is that I'm going to keep refusing of course. I lack the brain capacity for cooking and typing weird shit at the same time 😋

@romin @hispanicweeb
We could all become a little happier (and richer) if we just complied and stopped refusing to update the Go toolchain…
But I refuse to refuse! This isn't the path of true Jedi master 😤

@romin
I guessed that much, hence the remark: I didn't want to indiscriminately offend your piece of code solving… who knows what problem 😆

@lrhodes
True! Somehow I still didn't expect it to shift from steadily rolling towards the lowest point of the day to running home skipping 😂

@Zergling_man
Nah, some do. They just prefer a different brand of spyware 😏
