Oh, there sure are! Lots of modern source ports that support original game files: some are more faithful to the original gameplay, some are more experimental. I remember having a lot of fun playing Doom Legacy in early 2000s — in addition to modern network stack it had lots of graphical improvements like transparency and dynamic lighting. I didn't keep track since then, but I'm pretty sure that there are Doom engines that do even more amazing thing now.

Yep, it definitely did exist, just wasn't as widely adopted. Anyway, SPX AFAIR is very close to what UDP is to TCP/IP.
And I agree, packet per shot sounds realistic, but I can neither confirm, nor deny this — I think we have to look at the source. Or find someone who knows for sure, but that is exactly what original post was about 😆

There was time when all my friends who called me more or less often had custom ring tones and most of those were my own music with a couple of exceptions.
My current phone doesn't have custom ringtones for anyone in particular (probably because its phone book is still empty 😅), but the one is uses for everyone is still a track composed by my.

I'm usually very picky about it and want my computer to be idle when it's idle, like below 1% load. And usually I had to resort to various tricks to achieve it like unloading all tabs manually and even sending STOP signal to Firefox to freeze it when I'm not using it.
But now… I no longer have to. I mean yeah, it still wakes up occasionally and consumes a couple of percents of CPU when in the background, but it's barely noticeably even on my aged hardware.
They did an outstanding job!

This just creates a shortcut, it's even mentioned in the article:

PWA-like containertization used to be possible, but it wasn't without issues, sadly, they preferred to remove that functionality a couple of years ago instead of getting it in order.
I hope they revisit it, now they have FF Containers an it would probably be easier to implement.
