@mjdxp With Ubuntu a lot of stuff works out of the box, but if something doesn't, using another distro makes more sense than fixing it.
I ended up mounting Void live image from another bootable USB and installing it. At least I know how to fix things in that.
@mjdxp
> not just because it uses snaps
I resurrected my old MacBook and installed Ubuntu on it to make sure I connected all the ribbon cables inside properly and things like Bluetooth and optical drive work, before putting the screws back in. I planned installing Void on it, but as old Mac EFI is not UEFI compliant it didn't boot from USB. And I thought… maybe Ubuntu is good enough, but after a couple of hours of using it… OH SNAP 🤣
@neural_meduza
@q3k Wow! Does CPU in that have an MMU? I was pretty sure modern kernels do not support that anymore and can't run on devices like original Nintendo DS.
@codemonkeymike Chuwi looks cool, but I'd probably pick the Thinkpad just for that keyboard. I was a long time Mac user and now I use HP with similar layout and I still can't get used to it. Also hinges on the Thinkpad look more robust, it'll probably last longer even if you get a used one. And older i5 could be less power-efficient than newer Celeron, but still more performant.
And matte screen over glossy one, so, yeah, the Thinkpad 😅
I've found proper screwdrivers and brought my Late 2011 MacBook Pro back from the dead. It's a nice laptop actually with quad-core Core i7 and 16 gigs of RAM. The battery even has 70% of its original capacity as I was wise enough to disconnect it before storing it for several years. I'll try putting Void on it and see if it's any good 😋
@splitshockvirus It matches your avatar perfectly though ☺@iska@mstdn.starnix.network
@protonmail Leaving was wrong in the first place, in 2023 it became even more obvious. But welcome back anyway!
Any plans on making Proton Calendar and Proton Drive available in F-Droid and supporting Unified Push for notifications in ProtonMail so they work without Play Services?
@slightlyflightyone@sergal.org Of course! And polyamory takes all the fun out of cheating 🤭 @mjdxp
@neural_meduza Он был так молод… 🤔
@schlink Hurr durr 🤪
@neural_meduza
@neural_meduza
@mikey8758 Her eyes are hardly the most disturbing thing on this screenshot 🤣
@thor Try that!
I still think something's wrong with OBS, this is a quad-core i7 for god's sake! I bet it builds Firefox in minutes, encoding video isn't rocket science, it shouldn't be able to put such a machine down to its knees!
Using wireless network might have contributed BTW, sometimes hardware cryptography is broken in wireless adapter and it gets offloaded to the CPU by the driver, did you try using wired? Just an idea.
@thor In my experience, MBP will throttle anyway under continuous high workload, it's only a matter of whether it happens in 2 minutes or say 20 minutes, but they are just not designed to run under 80% load for hours — that's what Mac Pro is for. Laptops are perfect for stuff like processing photos with short bursts of CPU load.
I don't think changing the thermal paste will help greatly, just cleaning it would be enough.
@obihahn
It's true though. I'm Russian and I know what's it like here. Most are brainwashed, don't have all the information and are under the influence of Soviet-era myths, but that is exactly what they say.
Most are disappointed by the fact that Russia isn't winning, but they don't think that war itself was a horrible mistake.
They'd probably be terrified once they realize that what they think is "Ukrainian fakes" is actually true, but at present they are like this. @HumanAction_HandyMan @CSB
