@thor You're right, macOS does get slow on older hardware. That's why I mostly used my macs with OS that they came with, and just bought newer hardware every few years.
The only time I can remember updating OS having real performance advantage was 10.7→10.9, but that's mostly due to how bad in terms of performance 10.7 was 😂

@thor I'm not questioning your level of competence, man, don't get me wrong, I just find it odd that what was working perfectly fine over a decade ago on hardware of that time doesn't work now.

@thor Yep, it was years ago! When I was doing it, my hardware was top-notch. You're probably right about M1 optimizations.

@thor Wow! OBS used to be CPU-intensive, but not that much. Maybe something's wrong with the settings, try different codec or downscaling to lower resolution. Maybe the build you are using is buggy, try a different one. Your hardware just can't perform worse than the decade old one 🤷

I was streaming Starcraft2 with OBS (webcam + the screen itself) just fine on my late 2011 MBP. Fans were spinning all the way, but it worked. SC2 is comparable to an average DAW workload, maybe something else is the problem. Did you use SoundFlower to feed audio into OBS?

I'm no expert, I think Russia has modern APCs and command and recon vehicles, but those weren't mass-produced in enough quantities so it's mostly Soviet-era vehicles on the battlefield. Like you said, not in their best shape after being stored in poor weather conditions.
On top of that several European countries are sending heavier tanks, e.g. UK is sending a dozen of Challenger 2s. Training personnel and maintenance are going to be a challenge, but this is a serious advantage.

@snowdusk I don't think you need the boost if you're using an external mixer — that stuff is for mics. It's odd that anything above 13 introduces distortions though. Maybe mixer's output level is too high 🤷

Exactly! Depends on what you're comparing it with. Soviet equipment wasn't something to write home about even when it was "modern". Most US stuff from the 80-ies looks like something straight out of sci-fi movies compared to it 🤷

@futzle I got Microsoft Ergonomic mouse for about $8 a couple of months ago. It just had a huge discount. Sensor is kinda meh compared to what I'm used to, but otherwise it's a marvelous rodent, with a discount that made it cost four times less it's worth every cent 😁

My decade old Core i5 HP laptop plays 4k h265 videos with mpv just fine! I mean it does drop frames, but it's not THAT bad. And for h264 it uses hw decoder, YT videos are low complexity, so playback uses like ~20% CPU. Even with post-processing and volume normalization for audio.

@isaacs Oh, don't worry, it was a joke. I'm perfectly fine with light themes, although I'm mostly using dark ones nowadays. I even tried using both and switching between them automatically when day/night comes, but I realized that making both look equally good requires a lot of effort.
