TBH I was expecting this since 2014, but I underestimated how corrupt the European politicians were, so they let it slide then. I was planning to leave ever since, but first the failed attempt at building long-term relationship, then COVID and now this 😩
Yes, a lot of people in the West don't trust their governments and look for alternative sources of information, RT just fills this spot.

@gemlog@tilde.zone Qt, aside from being C++, is good from developer's standpoint — it's the easiest way to get cross-platform GUI app done that is consistent across all the platforms, but I always found it aesthetically displeasing from user's perspective. I have to admit though, it did get much better since Trolltech days 😂
Still, it's not my cup of tea.
I get why you dislike Sailfish and all things Jolla, now that I know your story.

This thing looks like one of the rugged ones, esp. with this case I got.
A friend of mine had this model so I knew what I was in for. She was always interested in alternative ROMs and OSes, so I got one too to tinker with and maybe help her with her phone later.
I like it, the battery is beefy, if you get rid of all the cruft, it lasts 4 days easily, like I'm back in the good old pre-smartphone days 🤭

I had a dream like that. Mine had one person who I had to meet. All other living things were gone. Although it was kind of scary, I liked that dream, I tried to write a song based on it, I may still have draft of the lyrics somewhere.

Do you have a second OS installed?
I have an old Mac Pro, I use Boot Camp to run Windows on it and when I reboot to Mac OS X, then back to Windows, my clock is several hours behind. That's because Mac OS X (and Linux) store hardware clock in UTC and Windows expects local timezone.
Maybe you have something similar 🤷

And they've failed even at that I think. Now that everyone is moving towards VoLTE and they don't move fast enough, they only have it in beta. If they don't come up with support for that soon, phones running Sailfish might become useless in some countries.
I never was a fan of Qt — both Sailfish and UbuntuTouch are Qt-based, but it's nice to have choice anyway.

I have a 8 Gb RAM version. It has 256 gigs of really fast UFS 3.1 internal storage and I put a 200 Gb SDcard in it on top of that.
CPU is powerful enough to build Mesa in 2-3 mins.
I still remember the days when my desktop computer wasn't powerful enough to run Alone in the Dark and now I carry this in my pocket, wow 😲

So this year I just got myself this cheap Chinese Android-based phone and… This model turned out to be good. Now it can also run SailfishOS, Ubuntu Touch and Droidian. All of those use some sort of compatibility layer over Android, thus "tainted", but at least I have choice and I have something to tinker with.

Same here! But recently I decided to ease up a bit. I can't afford being a tech purrfectionist in the modern world because I in fact hate almost everything: I hate git for using perl, I hate linux for not being a true microkernel, I hate go for having Google's hand in it…

I don't think that they didn't make everything available just for restriction's sake — I think some APIs are missing in mobile version and they just might not work, e.g. desktop version has Firefox containers, mobile version doesn't.
I wonder why stuff like Libredirect, or Nitter/Teddit redir in your case, isn't there, but, like I said, I can fix the URL myself 🤷

Well, you can just disable the system WebView implementation — that's what I did first. To my surprise, of all the apps I use, only Skype stopped working so nothing of value was lost. And as it's a webapp anyway, I could just open it in Firefox.
Then I decided to tone down my paranoid stance a bit and replaced it with Bromite. At least it has User-Agent randomization which makes tracking you a bit harder.

@gemlog@tilde.zone We don't have much of a choice even on desktop nowadays: it' either Firefox or something Chromium-based. If you're fine with Chromium-based, why not use system WebView anyway? 🤷
Or, you can replace it with Bromite which is marginally better.

@atyh Maybe some things changed, but their policy only disallowed emulators/VMs, if it runs natively, I think they don't have a problem with that.

I suppose you can't access real root filesystem then, so it's not a security concern.
They also had a strict policy about web browsers using system WebKit only, so if someone reports you can run w3m using this app, I think they'd ban it 😅
