@thor Yes, these olde machines are still useful for printing documentation. Image quality might be lacking so printing scans is out of the question, but for mostly text stuff they are no worse than the average laser printer, except for the printing speed.

What surprised me is that Mac OS X still had icons for floppy disks at least up to 10.9 — legacy stuff like this in OS that always strived to look modern. I don't think Macs capable of running Mac OS X even had floppy drives.

@thor I remember the dot matrix printer sound. I've used one a couple of years ago, I still have one in working condition, printing is dirt cheap, like $1,5 for a ribbon cartridge that you can print about 1500 pages with. It's really slow though and you'd better watch out so your neighbours don't shoot you for making all that noise 😂

@2T2@mstdn.starnix.network No FAT file systems I know of have owners or access permissions. The only attributes they have are: "read-only", "system", "hidden" and "archived". And you need some vfat tool to set those I think. Even if you manage to set UNIX-like permissions you will lose those on unmount. I'm not sure about ExFAT though, maybe it can handle some extended attributes 🤷

@fluffy This dialog is very similar to the one that recommends you to use Store-apps, but it still allows you to install anything if you click "More info". Maybe it'll work here too? 🤔
