@thor I wonder how people manage to get their 30+ inch screens so far below their line of sight. My height is above average, but even if I raise my chair as high as it can go, it's still far from what we have on this picture.
I try to do it, but I could never get this part right.
@q@mastodon.ml Ну так-то — да. Странно только что он прекратился 😅
Возможно, действительно усадка дома произошла, он не настолько старый 🤷
@Rezard
@Rezard А я всё гадал, где же тот сосед, который жил над нами лет 15 назад, а он в Мурманск уехал! 😂
@pony Oh, kids nowadays, always want it the easy way! In our time we've been camping in Quake — you've got to have real survival skills for that🧓
@mangeurdenuage I think I also have frog-shaped sugar pot and a teapot somewhere. The handle of the teapot chipped off and I use stevia-based sweetener instead of sugar now, so I don't use them anymore, but as an avid frog collector I still keep them😅
@thor
That's the worst part! You don't get paid, it's a scam 😂
@iska@mstdn.starnix.network
@ASPIRIN Раньше в Mac OS X было встроенное увеличение через Control+колёсико. Приблизил, поиграл с дивана, вернул как было. Сейчас так нельзя?
@thor I don't "enjoy" the fixing my computer part, but it's not that hard for me either — still better than using the product I hate with my guts and not being able to do something about it.
@thor That was what I was trying achieve by switching to Macs in early 2000s. But the UI got really bad. It might have looked cool on a 15" laptop screen, but on my Mac Pro with 2 30" displays it just made my eyes hurt. Yes, I could tweak it, but it's the same nerdy stuff I was trying go avoid.
It got better with 10.12, but I just don't want to invest in their hardware anymore, they might go for some "fresh modern look" again, I don't trust them anymore.
@thor Yes, having a Linux-based system as your daily driver requires some maintenance effort, but it least it looks and functions almost the same way after updates. And you don't have to use something that has a completely different look and feel because software that you're comfortable with is no longer updated. Firefox being a notable exception, but you can fix it with userChrome.css.
If Apple's and Microsoft's goal was keeping me hooked by software updates, they've failed miserably.
@thor Win 10 was way worse, but still usable, I've had a Lumia 950 XL, an Xbox, I had a couple of Windows licenses, Office 365 subscription, Xbox Live subscription… I was thinking of getting a Surface. But then they decided to give up on Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 11 brought back that horrible XP-like Start Menu and I said: "Oh, fuck it! I'm done with this",— now I'm back to Linux, running #VoidLinux on old hardware. If I need new hardware, I'd probably get something by Purism or System '76.
@thor I actually stopped using Apple products because the software was bad. Mac OS X got better up to 10.4 then it started steadily rolling downhill. It was bearable till 10.9, but then I was like: "What's this?! It looks horrible! Fuck it, I'm out of here!" With iOS that happened even earlier. Android was always a no-go for me, so I've tried Windows Phone 7 based phone. Battery life was bad, but I liked the tiles, so when Windows 8 came out I've tried it on both phone and computer.
@thor Who needs the battery icon anyway? What else could a number in the corner of the phone screen mean, how much mana you have left? 🤷
@kaia What's in the article? SSDs consume less power, it doesn't make any sense!
