@safiuddinkhan@fosstodon.org For me it was almost the exact opposite 😅
No, of course I've used Windows 95 along with OS/2 Warp — and many did, Windows wasn't THAT mainstream at the time. Maybe even Windows 98, but not anything beyond that. A friend of mine gave me a RedHat CD (It was so long ago, there was no RHEL, it was just RedHat), told me it was the new cool free UNIX-like thing and I went with that. In 2000s Mac OS X got released, I liked Apple hardware so I switched to Macs.
@iska@mstdn.starnix.network Oh, maybe it does that now, I don't know. I've just set that var in my .profile and forgot about it.
You can make sure it does by opening "about:support" the Graphics section should show whether it uses wayland or not.
Maybe there is an url like that for chromium-based browsers? 🤷🏿♀️
@jrballesteros05 @safiuddinkhan@fosstodon.org I think you could just disable autorun with some registry setting and I believe it was there prior to XP.
@iska@mstdn.starnix.network @FrailLeaf It looks like colors are distorted. I have artifacts like that on ppc64be because some libs don't handle endian-ness correctly.
@yolo What's that in the farthest corner of her desk, does she still have a landline? What year is this?
I think I'll remove the rock she was living under all this time then 🤷
@mastodon I knew a girl once who really liked IBM's style: Thinkpads, rubberized mice, etc.
Apple's design wasn't crappy either at the time, MacBooks weren't "unibody" yet, but she liked Thinkpads more.
@Elecnurs3 @gabriel At least, according to the screenshot, they are honest about using it for mining, not selling the colony on Mars pipe dream. I can see how reusable rockets make mining possible, but I don't see a lot of technologies that bring us closer to supporting life on other planets. These are the same "sustainability" technologies that many don't want to hear about in their pursuit of climate change denial.
@mangeurdenuage
> one side you are sure that you are protected the other side is just a promise
Oh, worth noting that both sides are a promise. Unless you do all the source code audit and build all the hardware yourself. You tend to trust free software maintainers more than EU MPs and courts, but that's irrelevant, it's still a matter of trust at its core.

I'm afraid bell peppers won't cut it, better get one of those cool melon catapults. Even if you can't kill the elephant, you can feed it!
@iska@mstdn.starnix.network @colinsmatt11 @Suiseiseki @pyrate @mangeurdenuage Why don't we appeal to conspiracy theorists instead?
"Did you know that your tinfoil hat is no longer enough?!"
"Nanochips in the vaccine will dissolve if you use Pine Time! And it' only $10000"
It worked with Alex Jones' dick pills, why not? 🤣
@iska@mstdn.starnix.network @mangeurdenuage @Suiseiseki
I know, that is why I used "if". It was just an example of overdoing it instead of doing things gradually.
@r000t Maybe they are referring to Carbon API? The Apple thing. It's deprecated already, but at least it's 10+ years old 🤷
@mangeurdenuage @Suiseiseki @iska@mstdn.starnix.network
Yep, legally it's a mess, but at least, unlike Facebook, it can be classified as "tech".
Companies are usually classified by their main sources of income. Even for MS and Google it's a stretch, but calling Facebook a tech company is just delusional IMO 🤷
@neural_meduza Чемпионат пройдёт в будущем — ещё даже не начался. А два человека уже умерло 😱
@mangeurdenuage @Suiseiseki @iska@mstdn.starnix.network
> they give you a temporary revocable authorization of usage of their Services
Oh, I think they are different because they sell hardware 😂
Apple does, so does MS: Xbox and Surface things. For Google this part of their bussiness is near negligent, but they still have it. There were some talks of "Facebook-phone", but I believe it didn't come to fruition — so pure surveillance there.
@mangeurdenuage @Suiseiseki @iska@mstdn.starnix.network
> how do you think they work ?
I think this one just checks if it's run on real hardware, not some virtual environment and makes sure you use unmodified signed binary. It is possible of course, but I'm pretty sure there is no KGB Gulag shit there 😅
@mangeurdenuage @Suiseiseki @iska@mstdn.starnix.network
> these rulings aren't effective as people think they are because there's a lot of loopholes in the said text
That is also true! Like I said, there is a lot more to be done. There are things to improve and it is important to prevent some government surveillance stuff from passing at the same time.
@mangeurdenuage @Suiseiseki @iska@mstdn.starnix.network
> they don't provide real direct protection
That's true! So both are important. My point was that not using proprietary solutions on its own is ineffective. You've got to have some alternative that's actually usable. And of course you've got to keep "tech" companies in line. Why do they even call them tech companies? Apple and MS at least sell tech, Google — to some extent. Facebook doesn't sell any tech, it sells your data, it's a surveillance company.
None
Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
