@safiuddinkhan@fosstodon.org Jokes like that were funny until they've actually renamed the default branch in git from master to… something else.
I still remember the days when there wasn't an ethernet adapter in every computer (no, not like today, lol, there weren't wireless either) and we connected computers with a cable using serial or parallel ports. One of the computers was actually called slave, like its role, and no one had a problem with that. Unbelievable, right?
@sai Having tech as a hobby is fine and dandy, but I'd really prefer a little less "computer related autism" in my life. Like not having urges to turn on that old Power Mac G5 to update software on it just because I'm bored. You know, building from source, fixing build errors… Only to turn it off once it's done.
At least it'll effect my power bill in a healthy way, thing's a real power drain and it takes almost two full days (!) to build Firefox on it!

@safiuddinkhan@fosstodon.org Then the plane should also have fires in different parts of the body. Pilots should be having a fist fight for control because some guys from the first class payed them for it. Oh, BTW first class has parachutes. But first class only!
Now we have the complete picture 😅
@birnim@fosstodon.org
@vikingkong @safiuddinkhan@fosstodon.org That's right, maybe it's just my impression as I prefer a crowd of people of different cultural and occupational backgrounds and it doesn't hold true for Fedi as a whole. I don't have any problem with people using their native languages from time to time, but I prefer english so we all understand each other without any means of translation.
@birnim@fosstodon.org Looks about right! Should have batlike wings though! Probably only one of them. And no windows. And some strange object standing out from one side and no one should be aware what's it for. And if system time is wrong it shouldn't even be able to take off 🤣
@safiuddinkhan@fosstodon.org
@sai Oh, yes, that's exactly what I usually do when hungover. Anything that distracts you from suffering.
Ibuprofen is fine too, aspirin just works best for me so I always try to keep some around. Paracetamol should be avoided though AFAIK.
I also have to deal with my cats — they like to sit on top of me when I'm in this helpless state. I think that is why they call hangover katzenjammer in German 😹
@sai I was a little worried as you didn't follow your usual g'morning-g'night routine after that hangover post. Good to see you well!
@lanodan
And microkernels are of course good! I mean everyone resorted to this "hybrid" shit for performance reasons, but now computers and even smartphones have abundance of computing power and we still don't have microkernel-based OSes as the mainstream.
Weren't there any interesting experiments with L4 or something similar recently? There were some interesting ideas with running L4 on top of linux, but I don't remembner anything viable coming out of it.
@lanodan @MischievousTomato @a1ba P9 was way ahead its time. I hoped it would gain popularity given its distributed nature when all this "cloud" shit was gaining steam, but no workloads didn't shift from clients, you still have to have a powerful one, they've just used "the cloud" as a justification to steal your data.
@MischievousTomato Good for you! Same here.
I don't see how sanboxing improves security in the age of Meltdown/Spectre/Heartbleed/etc but some seem to like it.
@MischievousTomato @a1ba @lanodan Theoretically they could provide links to relevant files or copies, but I don't know how they actually do it.
No guys, I'm not defending this, I've never used flatpaks and I'm not going to. All I'm saying, they didn't make it this shitty by chance — it's this way by design.
@MischievousTomato @a1ba @lanodan That's the price you have to pay for sandboxing/isolation, you can't have it and perfect integration at the same time 🤷
@lanodan @MischievousTomato @a1ba I agree with you, it is broken. Crappy integration is a major problem — but it is actually what they wanted to achieve with isolation. Static linking is not the same as what *they* wanted to do with flatpak — that's what I was talking about.
@lanodan @MischievousTomato @a1ba Wasn't isolation by using chroot the main point? It ensues bringing all the dependencies in, but that wasn't the primary objective. Am I wrong?
@cyberspook @iska@mstdn.starnix.network They are called drivers because they drive you crazy.
@chjara Water? Pf-f-ft! I'm not that picky, I'd take beer instead of water any day! No problem with that.

Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
