@gemlog
I have a few friends who moved to Germany and they like it there. Again, I wouldn't mind if I get a good job — having friends to hang out with is also a plus, but somehow this still doesn't sit right with me — probably due to German political establishment and their role in failing to act decisively and stopping this disaster.
I have friends in Spain too and they like the warmer climate, but I'm not a fan — but again, I probably wouldn't mind, I'm not picky 😅
@gemlog
Depend on where I would be able to secure a job — beggars can't be choosers😅
For me getting a job I would be comfortable with is more important than… location.
Originally I was aiming for Poland — culturally not too different, but now I doubt it would be possible, or in the foreseeable future, I don't expect everyone to be hostile, but it's still hard to avoid being prejudiced, especially for Poles. Same goes for Baltic states I think…
So Western Europe most probably 🤷
@gemlog
Nah! I'm currently unemployed and living in the city I don't have to go out much — unless I do it on my own volition. It's only raining here — it did snow a couple of times, but it fails to stick yet. This type of weather: neither raining, nor snowing, nor clear — botches my sleep schedule and I'm in this permanent state of half-asleep half-awake — not great, but I'll be fine.
Good luck with your routine!
@gemlog
Sounds nice! I'll check it out too — thanks again!
@gemlog
I mean sure, it adds an extra layer of security — as they (supposedly) do not store your messages in the clear, this makes using SMTP and IMAP impossible, but if you do need them, it's an extra hassle.
@gemlog
It's one of the motivations behind switching to self-hosting for me — to be able to use it with DeltaChat, as with Proton I'm unable to — they aren't providing direct SMTP access, only via their own proton-bridge, which is intended to be run locally — and running it on a phone doesn't sound like a good idea 😅
@gemlog
Did you ever try DeltaChat — the thing that adds an IM-like interface to e-mail?
They have developed a set of scripts to help people self-host e-mail serviced compatible with it: https://github.com/deltachat/chatmail
They expect the distro of your VPS to be systemd-based so I probably won't be able to use it as is, but essentially, they are just deploying dovecot and postfix and I intend to do something similar.
@gemlog
Yep, sure, I'm keeping my addresses on Proton domains — protonmail.ch and others, but I'm thinking of switching to self-hosting for my own ones: m0xEE.Net .Org and .Com
I'll look into Contabo, thank you!
@gemlog
Does it come with a dedicated IPv4 address?🤔
Maybe it's time to ditch Proton and self-host my e-mail?
@Mek101
Yeah, true in many cases — could probably be mitigated with proper design. I mean at least something like exception within exception handler leading to runtime abort won't happen, which, again, depending on design, might be okay or a total disaster 😂
@Mek101
In C that would probably be okay though: no exceptions (on programming language level) and no destructors 🤔
@pmwisse
I've switched away from Macs to sway and dwm to not have any fancy effects at all 😂
Starting with OS X 10.10 when Apple doubled down on transparency it became too heavy on the eyes for me to use comfortably — what maybe looked nice on a 15" laptop screen was absolutely unbearable on two 30" displays, it was giving me headaches. They have since backed down on it a bit — but I'm not looking back.

He sure enjoys being near the water — not the first time I see you taking him for walkies and he always enjoys exploring this small pond/canal 😸
Does he always stay nearby when you take him outside like that?
@notsoloud
There's no need to go for any higher-level concepts — for Russia it's middle ages all over again.
Even USSR wasn't much different — I have a long post in which I elaborate on that, but it's on my instance, which is currently under heavy load, I don't think you would be able to access it, I can send you a link later.
@notsoloud
Neither colonial, nor anti-colonial fits Russia, but feudal — these describes the nature of processes perfectly.
This also explains why Russia can maintain ties to other autocratic states, but can't tolerate democracies — because that is unacceptable in feudal system: serfs weren't allowed to choose their lords. Russia itself is becoming a vassal state of China — this also works in feudal system.
@notsoloud
A good example of this is the news from two weeks ago: Pooteen have written off 20 billions (!) of debts of African states. To a left-leaning western person it might even seem that Russia is anti-colonial, but let's look at this closely: would most people in these African countries get any of that? I seriously doubt that, this money was taken from Russians by Pooteen and given to the groups in power in these African countries — he's buying himself vassals in Africa.
None
Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
