@kevinrothrock
I think I did make this joke, before Trump got elected and it was about European politicians. Let me check my records…🤓

I've been using this machine running Mac OS X with Painter 10 and Intuos 2 and unless you're using some really complex brushes it's very responsive. I was never doing this professionally, but for scratching the occasional artistic expression itch it's perfect. I don't think I've ever used it with display resolutions higher than 1280x1024 though, I'm not even sure it can drive bigger displays TBH, it can probably do 1920x1200 🤔, but not higher.

On the other, it just works™, it doesn't cost too much, considering that I also use their VPN services, and Proton is a trustworthy company in my book.
I agree, when switching is optional, it kinda demotivates.

@liam @Hyolobrika
Exactly! I'm using Proton with my own custom domain and I'm still reluctant whether to make the plunge and switch to self-hosting it😅
On the one hand, I really want to use just basic SMTP and IMAP instead of relying on proton-bridge/hydroxide, this would also allow me to use this email address with DeltaChat.

@LeaBug
As a Russian I'd rather have a "leader" who does not mock US presidents. In the meantime, I think it would be appropriate to address this… creature as ringleader 🤭

@Hyolobrika
I'd use this myself, but their scripts seem to rely on systemd and if I go for a VPS, it'd probably be a BSD of some sort or Alpine, so I probably would have to make some of these things manually in order to make it work.

@Hyolobrika
I don't have experience hosting public e-mail services, I'm only considering migrating off Proton myself, but if you're interested, DeltaChat has made this set of scripts: github.com/deltachat/chatmail
As you know, the underlying infra for DeltaChat is email, so they are basically deploying dovecot and postfix — you might use this as a source of hints on what software to use or maybe even use it as is.

@Hyolobrika
Isn't it a good opportunity to self-host it? 😜

@Anachron
Those who use these phones to do game streaming — I can't come up with any other demographics myself 😅

Just kind of randomly remembered that this is the second time we move like, all the way across the globe and take this guy and his sister.

They had a one year stop in Canada last time so this was their third international move. Pretty bonkers in quite a few ways when you think about it

@romin
Is this a giant battle… frog? 😮

@lain @Red_Hat
Most are girls looking to earn a quick buck living in rundown apartments they aren't willing to show on stream because of all the empty cans of soda and empty cups of instant noodles lying around? 😲

And they allowed up to 10 activations for each license to proceed automatically, after that you could email them and after confirming you as a valid license holder, reset the counter.
I even remember those on tighter budget chipping in to buy one license — just to not mess with cracks😅
The problem isn't their unwillingness, but lack of commitment to support old SW in general — not specific to them, they might even not be the worst, I just never had to experience this in person before.

@santiago
Ha-ha, interesting! I had licenses for both: Painter 10/11 and CS2 and I always did a clean install, never bothered to check if just copying would suffice.
Ableton is actually not a bad company — they even legally allowed you to have software installed on multiple machines if you don't use them simultaneously, so you could e.g. have it on your Mac Pro/PowerMac in your home studio and on your MacBook Pro/PowerBook for field recording sessions.

@santiago
Oh, it's not a problem of course, I have newer rig to cover for all my DAW needs — it's for nostalgia value only: invite old friends, use mostly the same gear… Something like that — but such a nice idea hit a brick wall where I least expected it 😂

And offline works for base software, but not for additional instruments, without which Live is more or less useless for things other than deejaying. I've been exchanging e-mails with Ableton for over a month, but there is no one there who can still remember how this is supposed to work for older versions. I have the software, I have a license to use it, but I can't do that because "old" — the fuckers! So much for paying for software licenses 😩

@santiago
It was a really cool machine back in its days, not "weak" by any means — I remember using it for jamming with friends and recording it using Firewire interface into Ableton Live: bass, mic and couple of MIDI controllers, it did slow down to a crawl, but it could handle it.
I wish I could "recreate" this experience, but I can't activate Live 8 anymore: online activation fails because libraries in Mac OS X 10.4 can't handle newer TLS…
