Vladislav Inozemtsev's articles were insightful when he lived here, but he was forced to leave Russia in mid 2010s, now I'm reading his articles and it's like he has lost touch too — because I know he's looking at the numbers, but he doesn't "feel it" anymore. Foreign economists lack this even further, they look at the numbers and approximate things in accordance with their own economic realities, but that might be very misleading.

This is very good! Because a lot of people look at the officially published numbers for Russia and it looks like economy is indeed strong, in fact — far from it. These numbers do not necessary have to be bullshit, although I suspect some are — but they are meaningless when it comes to understanding the economic reality of average Russian.

BTW I have no idea what emacs client for Fedi looks like — I have zero doubts there is one, maybe more than one even, but never cared enough to look into it.

I believe, by default it uses xdg-open — which would use whatever program you have associated with the file type in your desktop environment. But you can of course change that in its config, I use mpv for videos, feh for images and cmus for audio.

Tinkering with computers is fine as hobby, but when you start depending on it… It's a unique kind of despair: you start hating computers, hating yourself, hating people using computers, hating everything… The burnout is severe, every time I resigned, I promised myself to never do it again, but as time passes I start thinking of it as of fun hobby again 🤪
