Cross-platform native C executables? Sweet.

"Cosmopolitan Libc makes C a build-once run-anywhere language, like Java, except it doesn't need an interpreter or virtual machine. Instead, it reconfigures stock GCC and Clang to output a POSIX-approved polyglot format that runs natively on Linux + Mac + Windows + FreeBSD + OpenBSD + NetBSD + BIOS with the best possible performance and the tiniest footprint imaginable."

Fedivision 2024

@scops @mntmn
I don't really use it on machines where I already have vim confiured, besides some of them are PowerPC and don't have proper Go to build micro 😂
But I like this editor very much for proper balance of simplicity and features, and I always recommend it to those who are used to nano-pico.

@newt
I do use syntax highlighting, but mine is still rather tame and I'm fine without it, to me it's more like "If it's there — why not?"
And I'm not really into color diversity myself, I even use Dark Reader to tone the colors down in Firefox. And yet, monochrome doesn't have to be black and white, I for one use shades of gray and greenish yellow 🤷

Also excellent tips for parents. Let your children be lost for a bit! Leave room for them to grow and accomplish things!

On Pleroma servers it's retroactive even — it hides even older notifications from that thread, which might be useful if you replied to a thread you shouldn't have, went for a short walk and came back to your notification box being filled to the brim 😂
I'm not sure it works the same way in Mastodon though 🤔

The matrix.org homeserver has been struggling with load over the last 24h (thanks perhaps to Slack for driving users our way: arstechnica.com/tech-policy/20) - we're working on fixing performance. Folks on other homeservers are of course unaffected. Apologies for the inconvenience. status.matrix.org is tracking the incident.

Translation "Russian parliament, the State Duma, is considering making wearing fursuit to work mandatory"

Those short video ads were lame, not it's time to move to Russia for real 😂
@PurpCat , right?

(No, it's not a real headline of course, it's NN-generated)

"Ha-ha, but I'm not like that, I'm wiser!" 🤔
I wonder, could it have something to do with the fact that the counter in my kitchen is always littered with empty boxes when I'm cooking? 🤣

@ErictheCerise
Sure, it is a different tool! apropos searches for matching man pages and gives you summaries right from these pages' titles. And in most systems it comes together with man in the same package — so there is often no need for a separate tool, that was the point of the pun 😁

Oh, he's the substance of grace compared to mine — who can take these silly poses in order to clean themselves, then forget about it midway and keep sitting like that, or start walking around with their tongues sticking out 😹

@ErictheCerise @astrid
We used to have a tool for that, it's called "apropos" by the way 😏

@lori
Right now in Russia all other VPN protocol seem to be blocked and this time not by addresses of entrypoints but by some DPI. WireGuard over TLS works, but it only works on my phone and I have to use it as a VPN box for my home network, which is ridiculous.

As for AI, I've been quite clear — I just don't see any usage scenarios for it 🤷

@lori
That is exactly what I've told them yesterday with my answers: focus on the things you already have instead of pursuing new ones.
Being able to run bridge on 32-bit ARM would be nice as I'd like so send messages from scripts using a machine I always have on and that isn't an x86-64 machine.
Bringing WireGuard over TLS that they market as Stealth to something other than mobile phones would also be nice.
