Yep, self-deprecation is actually really off-putting. It might inspire pity or be relatable, but it's not attractive in the slightest, a lot of people, especially young and inexperienced ones, are making a mistake attempting to make friends like this.

Незачем — и это уже давно очевидно! Только вот о том, нужен ли он нам, он нас не особо спрашивает 😩

I choose Counter Science and Computer Strike 🤪

Of course they do! Billions of CPU cycles in some Israeli thingie and gigawatts of power wasted on preventing me from posting cats on Fedi.
If you're doing a lot of work in C/C++/Rust consider using sccache to cache compilations. It's easy to set up and will save you a lot of time and a huge amount of power.

As an example this is just a couple of hours of work on Firefox, it saved me from re-running the compiler 90% of the time.

То есть очередь занимать с пятницы и приходить в 4 утра больше не нужно? Фу-ух! 😌
Oh wow, Maxim Kononenko, aka Mr. Parker, has reportedly died. A talented humorist who once wrote a satirical blog all about Putin, he was also a rabidly patriotic, chauvinist z-monster who penned propaganda essays for the last decade and change. https://t.me/rian_ru/245509

Damn capitalism! First they employ minors, then they make factories themselves work or starve! 🤪

Sometimes you have to, otherwise women might think you're one of those who are into Haskell, or worse… LISP 😱
— Men! All they want to do is get you into functional programming!
— No, this guy who came to our library yesterday — he's nothing like that. And I don't think I've ever seen him use more than two parentheses in a row… 🤔
@thatguyoverthere @cjd
Why are they sucking carbon from the atmosphere in a mountain valley, not next to some nasty factory, where it would make much more sense? 🤔

I do understand why many IMs rely on it, it's the most straightforward way to prevent pam and not making the number public is a nice compromise, but I'm still too paranoid to find it acceptable 😅

Yes, that is news to me, however, there are still cases when you can't trust your cell carrier. Speaking of Telegram, there have been known and confirmed cases when this was exploited by malicious state actor, it was the reason why password authentication was added in addition to OTPs sent via SMS.

@eriner
And of course I would choose it any day over a thing that requires phone number and other thing that also requires phone number, but in addition to it is a known KGB data collection and psyop tool. At least because I can host it myself on a ThinkPad from the early 2000s running in the back of my shed.

Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
