Yes, that is news to me, however, there are still cases when you can't trust your cell carrier. Speaking of Telegram, there have been known and confirmed cases when this was exploited by malicious state actor, it was the reason why password authentication was added in addition to OTPs sent via SMS.

And of course I would choose it any day over a thing that requires phone number and other thing that also requires phone number, but in addition to it is a known KGB data collection and psyop tool. At least because I can host it myself on a ThinkPad from the early 2000s running in the back of my shed.

There is no point in me selling you Matrix — all IMs suck, all of them! But I'd rather use the modern clasterfuck over infininte XML clasterfuck from 25+ years ago that is only used by other peeps on Fedi, who desolder cameras on ther phones, that never took off and never ever will because Nornirians can't even install it, let alone add you to their contacts without you doing it for them.

@eriner
Is there a point though? Double Ratchet is implemented in Matrix as well, but in addition to it, and unlike Signal, it's decentralized and you can self-host it, so there is lower probability that sever itself can get compromised.

fedicats is a great tag! Fedi isn't limited to Masto. I think I have to adopt it too 🤔

This neural network it getting old and sentimental 🧓🏻

On one hand, I even remember the announcement post and… time flies.
On the other — it feels like it existed forever, good job 👍
@randahl
TBH that looks more like a psyop to make Ukraine pull resources from other parts of the frontline e.g. to make attacks on Chasiv Yar higher chance for success.
@grillchen @kaia
Yep, at least not so many people present there would be hung over… Well, THAT hung over 😂
@Dicey
It takes not only being intelligent, but also being mentally sound and respectful for yourself and others — qualities that come together not as often as I'd like them to, some, instead of admitting they are wrong, just start attacking you personally, bringing their support crew in and keep denying even when it's obvious to everyone already that they are wrong.
Not only admitting error, but revising it yourself is what helps building up trust like nothing else, respect!

@bascule
As much as I'm not a fan of Signal and of anything really, relying on phone numbers, no one can deny that Double Ratchet itself is solid and sound design and has been adopted in Matrix and in XMMP as OMEMO and numerous other messengers not using standardised protocols.
Bringing up Telegram as being superior is just laughable 😩
Musk claimed that Signal has unpatched security vulnerabilities. As a cryptography expert I’m not aware of any: instead Signal has top-notch state-of-the-art encryption which has been adopted by its competitors it’s so good.
Telegram isn’t end-to-end encrypted by default. It has no group chat encryption whatsoever. It uses a bizarre, badly designed “MTProto” protocol about which dozens of cryptography papers have documented myriad unfixed flaws.
@Dicey
Does this mean that you're admitting that you've been wrong before and it's not someone else, but you yourself are bringing that up?
Wow, Fedi is indeed unique! 😁

— Why didn't you send me that email?
— I couldn't, my AI broke down 🤪

GPS is commodity hardware nowadays, using local beacons might involve implementing some things from the ground up 🤷
But I might be wrong about it, I'm not really sure what they use.
None
Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
