🇷🇺 Along with opposition politicians, independent journalists and human rights activists, ordinary Russians have been increasingly swept up in a crackdown reminiscent of the Soviet era. Some human rights advocates compare the scale of the clampdown to the repression from the 1960s to the 1980s, when dissidents were prosecuted for “anti-Soviet propaganda.”

A level of liberalism probably only seen in Moscow, for me it's not hard to believe that in other regions people had to take a photo of their ballots — and I've seen instructions online on how to make a fake checkmark out of a piece of thread for those who wanted to vote, but not for United Russia (there were parliamentary elections at the time, not presidential ones).
@rvps2001
Russians support Putin so much that they not only have to tell people to vote, but have to make sure they actually do 😂
They've been doing this for about a decade already BTW, I've seen it with my own eyes, they didn't have an app then and they weren't instructing for whom you had to vote, but you had to send a message when you did.
@Paradox
@neural_meduza
@Paradox

@grmpyprogrammer At this point I'm fairly certain that it's just a cope mechanism that allows you to operate in this industry and not hate yourself. Every time I get a job in tech/software development, in about a year I start questioning everything I do — every morning I wake up with the thought that everything I do is pointless and worthless. These jobs are usually well-paid, but it doesn't help a all, if anything — it only makes matters worse and eventually leads to a severe burnout 😩
@kravietz Imagine shit like this being done to Russians for over a decade.
But even more destructive effect of these disinformation campaigns isn't that people start believing bullshit, but that they stop trusting any information sources at all and take the "We will never know the truth" stance, after that people just believe whatever they are comfortable with — that's I think how Pooteen fighting for what's right gets sold to US conservatives skeptical of their own government.
@mntmn
Is MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 still required? I think they have made it the default about a dozen releases ago 🤔
I am outraged! It is #Caturday but the man and the tall one are cleaning. Vacuuming on caturday? Really? Cleaning is only permitted on Wednesdays according to the cat charter.
@shura
@neural_meduza
@chowderman
Everyone seems to come up with weird ideas about how supporting Ukraine is pointless after meeting with Trump: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/02/one-global-issue-trump-cares-about/677592/
Orbahn isn't really new to this and I doubt that he could come up with anything new, but them meeting still looks very suspicious — even by my standards 🤔
@rvps2001
None
Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
