@moonchild Ha-ha-ha! No, I can vaguely remember what it is about, but for some reason I don't remember seeing the word explicitly. Somehow it looks surprising to me now 😅
Maybe it's time to revisit it — I've only been reading what is called technical literature for the last… like 5 years and I think I got slow at reading through books, some change of pace (and genre) would be nice — maybe it would reignite my passion for reading.

@draconigen I think I've always had senior mentality, I remember still being a junior, but my responsibilities were doing different kinds of research with vague time constraints and no good metrics to measure if I was actually doing something and I remember being able to slack off for a couple of weeks not doing anything work-related at all, but then discovering something absolutely amazing and implementing it in a way that was enough do demonstrate its usefulness — pretty close to your diagram😂

However the part that on top of that Android applications are running in some sort of VM or at least get JIT-compiled slipped my mind completely. You're absolutely right, it is indeed more complex than things used to be 😄

No, I think it's pretty accurate. I think saving the state boils down to saving program's memory — when everything is position independent it's no longer a problem. And if this makes the program crash, it just gets relaunched. And of course its state gets cleared if the app was updated. I think even they have even implemented something like this for desktop applications in Mac OS X, but I'm not sure how it's done now.
