@evan
How is that possible? 🤔
Hashing won't cut it — because if they can match it, they control how hashing is done. You can only trust them that they won't be attempting to reverse it, but how would that be different from just trusting them with your contact list?

You can thank Google for that, they go great lengths pushing WebP and hindering JPEG XL's adoption: theregister.com/2022/10/31/jpe
As most modern browsers are based on Chromium and Blink, the outcome of it is obvious.
They also seem to have great influence over Mozilla, as they have made support for WebP not optional like it was before: breloma.m0xee.net/notice/AclXg
I quite literally had to patch the option to turn it off back in.

@jeremiah
Throw WebP out and squeeze JPEG XL in — problem solved 😏
Also, AFAIK JPEG2000 is a subset of JPEG XL — or rather JPEG XL builds upon what JPEG 2000, that failed to see adoption, was.

Nanami Madobe is the best mascot ever. I've never even been a Windows 7 user and I still like her 😍

> Squirrel
I've never used "sequel" as I think it's cringe, your take on it on the other hand… 🤣
I'm adopting it, I'm going to only use "squirrel" from now on 🐿️

Your comment is of course funny, but Trump aside, I think that it might actually be true. Immigrants themselves know exactly what they ran away from, unlike their kids, who might not appreciate the peaceful and quiet life their parents seem to enjoy so much, they are more likely to hold radical political views, which makes them great recruitment material for all sorts of troublemakers.

True, I never did.
I think I haven't play a game in like five years, except from occasional running through a couple of Quake levels when bored, but I do it almost without thinking 😄

Thanks to the fact I use mksh, my instance can stay alive under load 🤭

Yeah, I've been thinking about that. To me Japanese doesn't look expressive enough for you to be rude without being wordy. I mean you can probably tell apart not caring about you from outright hating, but not the finer grades. Probably why manga is popular, so violence can be… violent without becoming a whole page of text.
So all interactions are more "distant" than in "rude" languages.
Just my impression of language I barely understand, I might be wrong.
@theorytoe @not_benis

@theorytoe
What cultures are not rude, have their own languages and are represented on Fedi? 🤔

This is crazy. Over 6 years, popular YouTuber "Warthog Defense" built a pro-Ukrainian YouTube channel with 630,000 subscribers, and over night YouTube incorrectly deleted his channel for impersonation.

There is no trial, no appeal options, nothing — just an entire content creator career flushed down the drain, because the algorithm says so.

@anderspuck you might want to share this too.

Damn, my instance is overtaxed, I didn't even see your reply 😱
I mean I had to go to your instance to read it 😅

Not that there is any need to optimize shell shit, but in case you're ever going to reuse that, you can drop the tr — xargs will swallow all the extraneous whitespace anyway, including the newlines.
And even using awk is overkill in this case, unless it's a nod to Pete😏
There is a dumber, but still capable tool for that: cut
Use "cut -f1 -d' '" to filter out all but the first word before space on each line.

Can you see this nifty little garbage bin icon next to image.webp.enabled? This indicates that this preference isn't mandatory and can be deleted — sometimes this means that the it was added by the user manually, but not in this case — I know for sure that it was always there since it is how I *ALWAYS* kept WebP support disabled. Most of the time it means that this parameter was removed and no longer affects anything.
And you know what? It is the case — it has indeed been removed, here: https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/188f0cf468d3c1734eed977b29beef19faf91fb9
Yes, they have made what was optional before MANDATORY — for no reason. It's no longer up to you to disable it.

But the fun part is — look at the date this was submitted: it's the fifteenth of September! TWO DAYS after high-severity vulnerability in libwebp was registered. No shit, here it is: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-4863

Yes, it's exactly what it is — they have made it impossible for you to mitigate the quite possible vulnerabilities and put your fate in the hands of Google, making you dependent on them to fix their buggy shit. For no apparent reason!
My God, Mozilla, what the FUCK are you doing?! :marseyrage:
