Statements dreamed up by the utterly deranged 🤣
@codfather
Gentoo is when you have to carry a child yourself 😆
@mirabilos As for peripherals, I prefer full-sized mechanical keyboards and bigger mice — something like Razer Deathadder of MS IntelliMouse, but I'm fine with anything really, I even stopped being picky — I know I'll get used to anything eventually. Keyboard of HP laptop I use now is vastly different both from Thinkpads and MacBooks, I thought I never get used to it — but no, even that worked out 😂
@mirabilos
Well everyone has different workflows, I can't say that this is some important skill to have, had it not been for certain life circumstances, I'd probably never get used to this myself.
Always committing your work to not only to local repo and keeping files on networked storage are nice habits to have if you've moving between computers. I'm not using any "cloud" things, but have my own git and have a couple of computers accessible from the outside via ssh so I can always scp things.

А в Москве — роботы отсасывать лужи! Будущее, которое мы заслужили — как в Гостье из Будущего практически, но есть нюанс: сосульки всё равно будут падать людям на головы а подземные переходы во время ливней уходить под воду 🤣

Are you not from around these parts? It's Golden Delicious of course 😂
@rvps2001 It was a running joke in the russophone political Twitter that European bureaucrats are like Ents of Lord of the Rings — it takes fscking ages for them to realize something, but once they do, they might actually do something that matters. PACE is hardly the most important and influential enough body, but let us still hope that it is a good sign.

But this could cause waves all over time-space continuum, Python might not even exist then and Rust might become an interpreted language 😱

@jimmerthatisall Whoah, that is totally unhinged 😲
And I have once watched Terminator 2 without seeing Terminator first — it was insane!

I had a rather short period of Debian after that, then over a decade of Gentoo, I think like 15 years, I've been running it everywhere, but now I hate it with passion — by the end of that period I had to spend time in gdb after every upgrade trying to figure out what is segfaulting now 😅
Then I switched to Macs, but after Apple ruined the UI (yeah, pretty unusual reason), I've switched back, now to Void and this is where I am today.

It was an old PowerPC-based MacMini I still use today to host my Peremola instance, I have replaced Deb with Void and I must say things improved. I don't like exaggerations — systemd doesn't make the machine completely unusable, but when you can perform a side-by-side comparison, it's noticeable. I'm typing this now on MacBookPro with early i7 running Void, it's on my lap and it's ice cold, it wasn't this cool even running Mac OS X it came with.

Funny thing is, Debian was the distro with which I have experienced the "joy" of systemd first 😅Earlier releases didn't have it (as it didn't exist yet) and I was like: "Okay, they have something like launchd now, things are always changing" 🤷 I've been familiar with launchd as Macs were what's I've been using at the time. But when machine couldn't boot with system clock set wrong, I went online and found out what people have been talking about.

I still have RedHat 3 CD a friend of mine gave me in the late 90-ies: https://social.librem.one/@m0xee/108564028487859961
I later upgraded it to 6.2 that came with some book — actually I could've got a book that came with Slackware instead… I didn't know what Slackware was at the time, RedHat was what I was familiar with. Now that I look back on it, I think it was a mistake 😅
6.2 wasn't bad though, it's 7.0 when it stared going downhill.

But I don't hate Lennart as much as people usually do, he didn't ruin anything for me, I haven't been using Linux-based systems while that had happened. On the other hand, had it been not for Void, free from all the newest bullshit, I might have never got back into using them 😅
@FortyTwo @useless_idiot @Sabex @methos@noagendasocial.com
@yukiame
For me it's not the boot time, but rather the fact that something is always happening in the background. With Void I can have lots of things running, but when the system should be idle — it's indeed idle, like 98,9% idle. And the laptop is cold as ice. With systemd something's always happening and the laptop runs hot.

Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
