No, I get your point, it's just a side note, but it might make a difference as they can get Telegram and Discord in Microsoft store, but they won't find Element there. On a phone, installing Element and signing up for an account on matrix.org would take roughly the same amount of clicks/touches I think.
I'm not sure what it would be for XMPP. Skype, while commercial, is a mess in this regard — it asks a lot of questions.

Some things might have changed, but matrix.org used to require neither e-mail address nor a phone number to register. Even for Telegram you have to have a phone number.

Gajim ran fine even on my T43 with 2 gigs of RAM decades ago and it being heavier than webshit is a huge overstatment.
systemd is bad not because of 10Mb extra RAM, but because something is always happening in the background even if computer is idle, put Void on the same hardware and when it's idle — it's idle, like 98% idle. Even if you have a lot of things running. That damn thing just makes the computer run hot 🤷

I find it interesting how the absence of all this "AI" shit makes it obvious that you have to put extra effort into making a photo look good.
This phone has a sensor and lens that are probably not too bad, at least not worse than in my previous phone from 2015 and yet it focuses on some weird things, like cat's fur or flowers in the background, but not cat's face! And I don't even see it, despite display also being not that bad.

It still has uses for those who want to "scale" with a few clicks and it's probably useful for assessing the workload in real world conditions before getting real hardware for it, but other than that, yeah… It's supposed to be dirt cheap, but it's obvious that it even remotely isn't 😩
