@re9177 I did give my cat money for a copy of Plants versus Zombies 😹

@sarahquartz

@gemlog The only reason why I still have the menu bar (not always visible, but I didn't hide it permanently with userChrome either, I can still go to menu by pressing alt) is the Offline mode — there are absolutely no other ways to enable it.
It's still useful when changing proxies — when I do it without going offline first, some networking threads hang and never seem to recover, the only way to fix it is to restart Firefox.

@neural_meduza Честно говоря, не знаю как реагировать на подобную публикацию. Тем более в субботу 😿

@gemlog Unrelated to this war, but one of the most prominent and a rather recent one of these mysterious deaths is Putin's MChS (firefighters and all that) general falling from a cliff into a waterfall: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yevgeny_
The motives remained a mystery and he had a lavish funeral, but this death looked so stupid that it's still considered an assassination by many.
See, water-related deaths aren't uncommon. This one's a combo even😄
@kevinrothrock

@sunchaser @sarahquartz Дебил хорош!
Дохлый дед — IRC, такой, с запашком уже. Jabber — это ещё не дохлый, но песок уже сыпется так, что нужно самосвалами вывозить 🤣

@amiloradovsky Ha-ha-ha, perfect description for something human-readable, not human-writable!
@gemlog

@gemlog They are really good for things below certain level of complexity beyond which they become a mess. They are perfect when you read them, way less so when you write them.
Complex Docker container descriptions is where they truly "shine". I wouldn't even touch those without editor that highlights wrong indentation in bright red.
@amiloradovsky

@gemlog
It was designed by people who are into C++ and JS so you might see where those came from 😉
They aren't as bad as YAML, but that is a very low bar too 🤣
@amiloradovsky

@amiloradovsky Well, yes, it's explicit about memory management. That was one of the main goals behind its creation — to eliminate RAM leaks, ill fame of Firefox at the time. And it came out very nice — way better than C++ they were using, some say that's a very low bar, but they still got the tool they wanted — a language similar to C++, sans the syntax, that is reasonably low level, but suitable for large desktop applications and with memory safety.
Toml-files are yuck though!
@gemlog

@yukiame "Transition period" is the best time: you have the income of an adult, but expenses on day-to-day things aren't even close. And it might seem like it's going to remain that way for the rest of you life 😅

@jeff Yeah, most probably true. And they never went with Germany's odd ideas of phasing them out, which made zero sense from carbon footprint perspective, but made a lot from the infamous relying on cheap gas one 🤭

@KiffinEileen This version is better than the Drake one I have. Saved!

@jeff Same for Russia. Everyone still gives in to the nuke scares, but I doubt there are any in working order. Cool looking launchers shown at parades carry dummies of course, but the rest is probably just as good — decomposing into rust in the flooded silos. Maintaining this shit costs bazillions, I'd be very much surprised if not every dime gets stolen, no one even sees this stuff. Tactical ones might be in order, but that's nothing to brag about, I bet China has more of those anyway.

@gemlog Zig looks like a nice language, but Rust doesn't look hard to learn either — true, some things are done differently, memory management in particular — not what everyone's used to, but to me it at least makes sense, unlike how it's done in GC languages. Some textbooks Go examples make me wonder why this memory is usable at all at this point? 🤪
I don't like everything about Rust, but I think a lot of problems come from how people expect languages and compilers to work.
@amiloradovsky

@ipg Is it somehow related to Zstandard compression?

@jeff Close, but not quite 😏
I guess I'm not even in the league, no NJ for me today.

@jeff I'm fine with NJ, still better than a certain nuclear superpower 😂
