@kzimmermann The news article about this laptop on some tech site (The Register?) had a very accurate phrase: it has seven times more screens than average laptop 🤣
@RL_Dane I don't dislike hamburger menus, both my Thunderbird and Firefox UIs are heavily modified by user stylesheets, but there is one thing that I use somewhat frequently in Firefox that you can't access in any other way but the menus — offline mode. Which is very useful when switching proxies. Because once one of the FF networking thread dies when you shut the proxy down there is no way to bring it back to life, you can only restart Firefox 🤪
@kzimmermann I think they used to have an even more versatile model 🤣
No, just kidding, I'm not even sure if this thing was mass-produced.
@nicemicro I have more pleasant memories about these 😅
K6-2 was the CPU that made me learn that compiler optimizations make a difference. On K6-2 for example "mov AX, 0" was faster than "xor AX, AX" — that is what most used to zero out the register, so just rebuilding with -march=k6-2 was giving you sizeable performance gains. In QuakeForge on heavy scenes it was 22 FPS vs 17 FPS — nothing to sneer at! In integer maths the improvement was 20-25% on average, then there was 3D Now!
@Nishi
@Nishi Here are the ones I have!
I also have an extremely rare K6-3+ 500 MHz somewhere, but I can't find it now. And everyone's favourite of the time — Celeron 300 MHz, which could be easily overclocked to 500 MHz.
@neural_meduza И никто не заметил разницы! 🤪
@ActionRetro Did they ship these machines with this display or does it just match perfectly? 🤔

Всему своё время 😈
@mjdxp With Ubuntu a lot of stuff works out of the box, but if something doesn't, using another distro makes more sense than fixing it.
I ended up mounting Void live image from another bootable USB and installing it. At least I know how to fix things in that.
@mjdxp
> not just because it uses snaps
I resurrected my old MacBook and installed Ubuntu on it to make sure I connected all the ribbon cables inside properly and things like Bluetooth and optical drive work, before putting the screws back in. I planned installing Void on it, but as old Mac EFI is not UEFI compliant it didn't boot from USB. And I thought… maybe Ubuntu is good enough, but after a couple of hours of using it… OH SNAP 🤣
@blue Именно про танки, я только Girls und Panzer пожалуй помню. Про самолёты пара-тройка-была, про корабли парочка. Вот про огромных боевых роботов — действительно хоть отбавляй 😆
@neural_meduza
@q3k Wow! Does CPU in that have an MMU? I was pretty sure modern kernels do not support that anymore and can't run on devices like original Nintendo DS.
@codemonkeymike Chuwi looks cool, but I'd probably pick the Thinkpad just for that keyboard. I was a long time Mac user and now I use HP with similar layout and I still can't get used to it. Also hinges on the Thinkpad look more robust, it'll probably last longer even if you get a used one. And older i5 could be less power-efficient than newer Celeron, but still more performant.
And matte screen over glossy one, so, yeah, the Thinkpad 😅
I've found proper screwdrivers and brought my Late 2011 MacBook Pro back from the dead. It's a nice laptop actually with quad-core Core i7 and 16 gigs of RAM. The battery even has 70% of its original capacity as I was wise enough to disconnect it before storing it for several years. I'll try putting Void on it and see if it's any good 😋

Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
