Yeah, overcharging can hurt the battery really bad. I've replaced mine this year. It does have its share of charge cycles, probably above 150, but it's still pretty new.
Linux might be another reason, Void is really barebones even compared to most Linux distros so it most probably gives me some extra battery life.
This laptop is 9 years old and only has i5 CPU, but I've upgraded it with 16 gigs of RAM and a server-grade 1Tb SSD, still gets most things done, I really like it!

I wonder if they also have their /bin directory named differently 🤣

@Jessica Oh, BTW I use "Auto tab discard" extension that is configured in a way only 5 tabs are active at the same time, all others are discarded.
I also have a habit of bookmarking websites and closing the tab if I want to revisit it later.
This might be the reason I'm enjoying much longer battery life.

It's not that bad for me though. My laptop runs Void linux and although I don't use a lot of web apps, I do have Skype and Element open in separate windows most of the time It's an old HP 430 Gen1 laptop and it's battery is not an expanded capacity one, but I can still can get like 4 hours of battery life on average out of this thing.
When Firefox is not focused, its CPU usage is below 1%.
Maybe you have some configuration issues 🤷

@Jessica It's not bad per se, but yes, it is somewhat slower and it is resource hungry, not sure if more than Chrome.
I just can't bring myself to using things Google has their hand in, for personal, probably ideological reasons. Even if it's opensource in case of AOSP and Chromium-based browsers, or an open format/codec in case of WebP and VP9, I just don't feel comfortable with these 😩
My daily drivers, both the workstation and the laptop have plenty of RAM so I'm fine with Firefox.

@Jessica I don't have any computer connected to my 4k TV and I'm too paranoid to enable SMART functions 😅 So I use it exclusively to play what I've downloaded and put to an external HD.
I'm not going to preach, but I try to avoid anything Google incl. Chromium-based and Electron apps, except for Go maybe, so I use Firefox (with HTTP/2, HTTP/3, WebP and VP9 disabled, kek), but it also leaks like a sieve. All modern browsers are like that, yeah clearing cache seem the only way to fix it.

Oh, yes, no video player can do that, I think Google doesn't expose video streams with higher resolution via API. Even some browsers can't do that. I remember using an old version of Safari for YouTube, but I couldn't get it to play vids in 4k anymore, a quick search revealed that it was no longer possible.
My displays are 2560x1600, but I'm usually fine with 1080p so what mpv can if fine for me.

@Jessica I wish there was an extension that adds a way to just launch mpv with video URL to the right click context menu and avoid using the browser itself for that altogether.
I've found something like that, but it was too complex, it consisted of two parts: the extension itself and the program that runs in the background and actually runs mpv. Pywalfox functions in a similar way, I don't know if even that is possible with Chrome.
Copying the URL and pasting it into terminal if fine too 🤷

@ryan Extensibility is cool, but it's a disaster for someone like me: when I went back to Linux-based systems after using Mac OS X for a long time and a brief period of Windows, I was afraid to use Firefox because I knew I'd end up customizing everything, including every nook and cranny in its UI… And of course I did 🤣

@millihertz There was an X server that could use generic framebuffer devices, maybe you should try that.

With Xorg they've made it all modular, so I'm not sure how to do that anymore, maybe you should make a xorg.conf and set the driver to be used to framebuffer driver explicitly in it 🤷
