@doxanthropos You're right, it wasn't about centralization at all at its inception! It even had some sort of decentralization in form of OpenID, so you didn't have to make a separate account for every blog you wanted to comment on, but it still got us to the point we are in today: hypercentralization and AJAX turned into a total shitshow!
And yeah, I'm also not into this Web 3.0 thing at all, Web 2.0 became something really bad regardless of that.

@reay I'm more of a CD guy myself and he was more into compact cassettes so he showed me what tape decks he has, it was interesting. I had a great time.
On the other hand a friend of mine bought a fried GPU once, it kind of worked, but under extensive workloads it just shut off. Bad things happen even if you follow all the rules, but I was lucky!

@reay You're right! It might be pure luck for me. I've bought all kinds of used equipment: laptop, gfx card, soundcard, RAM, camera, bass, synthesizers, acoustic system… I can't even remember everything! And for me it was almost always not only a great deal, but some interesting interaction. For example, the person whom I've bought speakers from did a real demo of them for me — it wasn't necessary, I've owned the same model before, but he really enjoyed that 😆

@reay What's the risk in buying second-hand hardware? As long as there is someone to help test it, so all the ports work, screen is okay, etc, I think it's preferrable. At least it worked for the one who owned it before.
New laptop might just die in a month even if it's HP or Apple. The chance is far from zero. Yes, you can replace it, but you have to move data to and fro and that is always a nightmare. And you can't really open it up so they don't ask questions if you go for replacement 🤷🏿‍♀️

I see this history-based completion sound nice in theory, but do I really need that? What I said earlier still holds. I had lots of stuff that looked nice or might be useful, but then I started to get rid of everything but what I really used. Worked well for me. Do I need CPU load in the status bar? No, I'll run top if I want that. Do I need this nice prompt that tells me what branch I am on? No, I can run git status if I want to know that, etc

@iska@mstdn.starnix.network There IS tab completion in PowerShell. It's for executables and paths only. In bash you can extend tab completion to almost everything, but honestly, I hate it. I've switched to mksh which doesn't have it and is otherwise pretty barebones. I like it.
People tend to abuse some things only because they are extensible: bash, vim — okay, this class browser is nice, the spellchecker too, but do you need that if all you want is to change some path in a script? 🤔

@CSB Can't you use USB DAC with most phones nowadays? Well, if you dig that deep, I think that instead of relying of a phone you should already have a separate DAP which has a decent DAC, amp, it's own storage and a battery that is separate from phone's and you don't have to carry it on your head.
