@calcifer That is precisely why Matrix, with all its shortcomings is viable in non-free countries like China and Russia, but Signal, however secure it might be, is just a shiny useless app.
If you can't trust your cell provider, using your phone number as your primary ID means it can always be traced back to real you. Of course you can use phone number registered to some other person and a burner phone, but it also has its cons and it's not for everyone.
@katka @volpeon
@volpeon I think they've added this during the Hong Kong protests not that long ago. To prevent the police from using phones of arrested protesters to track others they've had contact with.
@katka @KayFaraday
@lichencats Thank you!
@sneak Is it mandatory for other countries to have a verified phone number linked now? 😮
I'm sorry if this is old news, I haven't used my AppleID for 5 years or more. Last time it nagged me with setting 3 "security questions", but at least you could log in using your web browser and disable them right after that. Having a phone number tied is really bad!
@feld Definitely looks like Pebble!
@ZySoua What's with putting tangerine on top of its head. This is not the first time I see it, is it some meme?
@safiuddinkhan@fosstodon.org Yeah, I've seen the trailer/prerelease video so I was expecting it too. Does it live up to its expectations though? Everyone's so hyped up, not that it's wrong, it's a game with cat as a playable character after all 😸
But no real evidence of gameplay and story being really good.
Steam-only is bad though, I've never made an account as the client always segfaulted on me. I'll wait till it's on GOG — should happen sooner or later.
@neural_meduza В московском метро вообще всё живое является гибридом чего-нибудь и свиньи 🐷
@murks I'm not pushing SfOS, I'm sure you have lots of your own reasons to use Android. I'm just testing this app to do something meaningful.
Sorry for using your post as testing grounds 🙏
@murks I'm considering giving up using Android and making SailfishOS my daily driver. I'm using Tooter Beta on to write this comment (and the previous one). It's a community port, but my phone works mostly fine. The apps are scarce, but I don't need much: there is a Matrix client, a Fedi client and the browser kinda works for me. There are kinks to iron out here in there, but it's quite usable.
@murks I use Fennec mostly and only use Bromite WebView as a replacement for Google's implementation. I've tried disabling WebView completely and the only app I use that stopped working was Skype, so I think I'm fine 😄
But yes, it takes time for software on Fdroid to get updated. Sometimes I just go to the github releases page and download the .apk-file. Not sure if it's possible for component like Bromite WebView.
@neural_meduza Можно с ними подружиться, если предложить им что-нибудь съедобное. Или спиртное!
Но приручить — вряд ли, они не живут в неволе.
@safiuddinkhan@fosstodon.org Well, at least they didn't start war in the region that will likely launch global energy and food crisis 🤷
Although I think there were some serious "tensions" a couple of years ago, but at least that was avoided.
It's not just your country, something wrong's going on globally. Let's just hope it won't get worse!
