@daksh I still think it's disturbing. A lot of people, especialy non-tech-savvy ones, don't even think how this information is handled, what kind of information gets sent with crash reports. And if they knew, they'd be concerned.
Free software often lets you view what is sent and explicitly approve it, non-free software more often doesn't.
So it is still privacy violating in a way, but yes, it is out of scope of your question.

Still, I prefer to stay away from anything by Google. Not because I'm some FOSS-zealot, I just don't like them and don't trust them. I can't even take things that are not obviously evil like WebPee and VP9, sorry.

Sandboxing looks good on paper, but with all this Spectre/Meltdown shit, Apple has this Heartbleed thing… To me it's just a waste of resources security-wise.

It might have inferior performance, but phones are so powerful nowadays that the difference is barely noticeable.

I have an old Lumia phone running desktop Windows 11 and Firefox is rather usable on it, but on e.g. Droidian it's clunky as fsck!

Replacing Google's implementation with Bromite is probably the best you can do at the moment. Mozilla tried to make WebView based on Gecko, but they've given up long time ago.

It's even better, because Android doesn't have "normal" user space I think and uses something like busybox.
But yes, despite that you can run ffmpeg in termux like you normally would.
