I can justify spending money on a high end DAC and Amp for a desktop but not for a mobile.

DACs for desktops are not that expensive same with Amps. But mobiles are a meme, if you already own a smartphone except android DACs suck usually.

@splitshockvirus @nerdtronics most smartphones don't even have a 3.5mm jack these days. So I can totally see why someone would buy a DAP/DAC :comfyeyes:

@newt
Why not use wireless headphones from some brand like Sennheiser? Audio is transmitted digitally via Bluetooth so only the DAC built into headphones matters and it should at least be decent.
I mean, it's a phone, it's meant to be used in noisy environment. I seriously doubt you'd appreciate audio quality improvement from using a separate DAC and headphones like HD600 🤷

@m0xee @nerdtronics @splitshockvirus if you want my personal opinion, I just hate Bluetooth. In crowded places, it just fails due to the amount of devices around. If a dozen or two people around you have BT headphones and are using them, you're screwed. Bandwidth isn't limitless, you know.

On top of that, I'm tired of charging yet another device and keeping track of its battery. Enough is enough.

I'd say you're screwed in this case even if there is no Bluetooth involved. Run! 😂
But yeah, I get it, it's another limitation. I'm using wired Sennheiser headphones with my phone, it has jack, no problem. I'm just theorizing on what I'd do if it didn't.

@m0xee @nerdtronics @splitshockvirus I also prefer not to use my phone for anything except phone things or using it as a modem. Staring at a black rectangle isn't good for you. This is why I prefer more specialised devices for things like music or watching movies.

@newt Yup, same here. I still have my standalone CD player, and although I have an external soundcard too, I'd prefer my CD collection any day!
