My child is at that age (5 almost 6) when girls start experiencing a confidence gap. I would have been a proud mamma to show her the incredible diversity of presenters in our devroom at FOSDEM.

I’ve been showing her examples of other kinds of excellence (than stereotypical cis white men - sorry no offense) since she was an infant.

But it’s so much more powerful when you discuss people you know IRL and can show actual examples...

I've done a zine with a friend, it's called punk é amor (punk is love), if somebody around around here is interested let me know. Its free price.

@onepict @Gina @fosdem
Yes OFFDEM is happening this year, and indeed Equity is at the heart of what we do, and we do have rooms.
The topics that interest you are discussed in the bonds workgroup, you might want to join it on OFFDEM forum: oxygen.offdem.net/g/bonds.wg

@Gina Expected to get coffee? What the actual fuck? That's terrible. I hope your former coworkers read this and are deeply ashamed. FFS.

Without this DEI program, I wouldn't have worked in IT. Again, grateful to Capgemini ❤️

Unfortunately I now worked in corporate IT. I was the only woman in every team. A self taught junior dev. The micro aggressions that I had to deal were _insane_.

Daily:
- expected to get coffee and take notes
- ignored, side eyed or talked over
- expected to write CSS as a Java dev because "girls are good at that"
- SO MANY weird and inappropriate jokes and comments
- weird invites to a senior devs house

In honor of #FOSDEM rejecting our Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging (DEIB) track, and time permitting, I will be posting numbers about diversity in tech and my personal experiences in IT today.

Feel encouraged to share numbers and experiences as well ❤️

I was interviewed a couple weeks ago by a grad student working on a paper about attitudes towards AI in the maker/creative communities. We had a good long discussion and in talking, we realized the divide between pro-AI people and anti-AI people mostly comes down to whether people value the process or the product.

My friend only values the product, so she doesn't understand why someone would want to spend time on the process.

An embargoed security issue in PHP leaked and it is extremely serious: all versions >5.4 are affected. No patches are available yet.

I highly recommend shutting down any PHP services until the patch is available—that's how serious this issue is.

Apache HTTPD users can run

a2dismod php8.2 # any version
a2dissite <affected website configs>
systemctl restart apache2

“Atvinnuleysi meðal tölvunarfræðinga aukist um 70% á tveimur árum - RÚV.is”

ruv.is/frettir/innlent/2026-10

Bit of Icelandic news. The relevant part is in the headline which translates as "unemployment among those with computer scientist degrees increased by 70% in two years"

These numbers don't include the numerous developers who worked without a CS degree.

Looking for a "Senior Software Engineer"-like position, based in Seattle, WA, remote preferred.

20+ years in role, the majority is in C/C++, but I've done server and Android-hosted Java, Python, Bash Perl, etc.

Outside of work I've led the open source game development project Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead since 2012, I grew it from a single contributor (me) to 50+ active contributors, not including ancillary teams like translation and art production.
