@tante agents are very good at writing code except that it must absolutely be double checked by an experienced developer, its poorly written, full of bugs, untested, infit for production, not monitorable and it doesn't scale. But BESIDES THAT, agents are very good at writing code.

I can't help it if so many of the awesome accounts I follow are in German. And I want to be able to understand their messages without clicking on 'Translate' 50+ times a day. Plus this way I would understand / could attend ALL the talks at Berlin #FediDay.

I’ve been thinking along the same lines, with a few additional notes:

- Outsourcing was never rolled back. Industry went abroad and never returned
- Companies overall adjusted and now, more or less, benefit from it
- Much if that is because many companies also outsourced design and engineering, so lower coordination costs
- Most products are still worse than pre-outsourcing
- Domestic labour was pretty close to destroyed.
- Countries that went all-in on outsourcing effectively deindustrialised

I've thought often the last couple of years about how the “Fire your developers! Use AI!!” craze feels really similar to the outsourcing / offshoring mania of a few decades ago — and how many of the same problems it shares:

- Cost-cutting shiny things
- but turns out generating code was the easy part
- and building cumulative shared understanding is everything
- and shortcuts around that dig you in a hole really fast
- and that hole is full of code that nobody can maintain.

Something in the water, I guess. Something always in the water that once in a while explodes when conditions are right, like algae blooms.

Constantly, when I read articles on the NY Times website (Firefox in Android), the site pops up annoying "upgrade" offers and demands that I use the app. Is there any way to remove these vandalisms permanently?

Fielding questions re: this article w/bizarre factual errors. First, there's no "Montecito County" in CA. Second, 2 fires are actually in *Monterey,* & 3rd in *Mendocino*. Listen, I know it's hard for us "average" folks to stop rich people like Elon Musk from doing horrible things, but one very easy thing we can do is stop using his services that help support hatred. Get the fuck off of X. It's not a difficult thing to do. There are zero excuses.
