@librico @malteengeler I think the term AI is rather poisoned now.

Machine Learning as a term isn't.

When most folks think about AI they are thinking ChatGPT.

So focusing on specific parts of machine learning and naming their specific purpose is all we can do.

Call a neural network that, explain the specific models to train them.

Refer to the older Knowledge Based Systems to refer to the curation and rules for these models.

Abandon AI as an overall term. The marketers have it now.

@librico Thank you for pointing that out. What I wanted to stress is that niche use cases like protein folding are frequently used to justify "AI" in a way that has little to do with what "AI" stands for: (commercial, LLMs, extraction , exploitation, domination).

One rhetorical trick AI vendors & boosters use to steamroll over concerns - like the lack of demonstrable ROI - is to paint the LLM future as "inevitable".

It doesn't matter that the end product is worse, or that productivity gains are elusive.
