So Fediverse, last week I was laid off by my employer, Elastic, as part of a wider reorg that made my position redundant. 7% of the global workforce was impacted, so I'm not alone in this 😢

I would appreciate boosts as I'm now looking for my next job. Preferably in community open source, but with the crazy market, a mortage and a baby I appreciate any lead.
I'm a backend engineer with strong #cloudinfrastructure , #devops and #observability skills. I spent the last 5 years working with Golang, but have previous experience with Ruby, Python, PHP and JavaScript (that shows how old I am I guess).

This is apparently the new line for blaming companies for AI failures: you didn’t fully upload the brains of your senior people before firing them! You have to complete the extraction process first! Suck them dry, •then• discard them!

Machine learning does not actually work that way, but…in this FOMO-driven industry, anything goes to blame the customer.

Surely handing control of our society to next-word predictors whose alignment can be compromised by middle school level logical paradoxes won't have any consequences

Why is the EU Commission aggressively pushing a for-profit, venture capital funded, and closed source digital ghost town?

Especially when a non-corporate free and open European-made alternative with millions of active people on it exists in the form of Mastodon that’s interoperable with an international alternative called the fediverse?

Could it have something to do with mandatory identity verification? 🤔

I’ve had a huge health setback following my move.

My level of function is half what it was before.

The hospital said they would connect me with “resources” to assist with activities of daily living.

There’s a 1.5 year wait list.

MAiD was offered in under a month.

I don’t want to die.

I don’t want to allow the government to euthanize me.

But this is eugenics I’m always talking about.

I need assistance to survive. Help with cooking & cleaning.

The supports don’t exist unless you have a ton of money.

When you try and push your body to do it yourself, you get worse.

If you end up in hospital, they suggest assisted dying.

Am I “free” to say no? Of course.

Does it feel that way when nothing else is being offered?

Not at all.

I’m being denied the support to live while “offered” death.

That’s coercion.

It’s eugenics.

The system has decided I’m not worth saving.

I’m not alone in this.

Disabled people urgently need allies and support in this fight.

And I need some home care.
