There are about a dozen questions we have about self-driving cars and the massive amount of footage they collect. Chief among them: exactly what do police get access to when they get a warrant for footage? eff.org/deeplinks/2023/08/impe

Anyone done research recently on #organic #cotton and how to tell what's legit vs. "greenwashed"?

So far I've found the "Global Organic Textile Standard" (GOTS) certification and some favorable reporting on it. Is it any good? Anything else I should look for?

(I need new sheets, and also want to find a new jeans supplier, I think.)

Just needed to report Fedi spam for the first time in a long while. It's pretty straightforward to do through Mastodon's web interface, but I thought it might be useful to post a reminder for anyone in a similar situation.

The report tool is one of the options in the pull-down menu that you access through the three dots "..." icon (with mouseover text "More") at the bottom of a post.

Giulietta Williamson (they/them), a PhD student at Cardiff Metropolitan University, is doing research on the experiences of transgender hospitality workers in the UK. You can take a short survey to help them out! Any service workers over the age of 18 who work in UK hotels, restaurants, or pubs are invited to take part in this research, whether you are transgender or not. The survey will remain open until at least the end of August.

Hey #AskFedi,

Is *anyone* out there using FOSS for accounting?

I'm struggling with Quickbooks desktop (which you can only get as a subscription now, unless you pay four figures for an enterprise license).

#Xero comes highly recommended to me, but I'm loathe to go "#cloud" for accounting. Very loathe indeed.

But while I want to try FOSS for my personal accounting, I just can't make the leap for business yet. I wish I could. But I was wondering if anyone out there already has.

Half of all plastics *ever* manufactured have been made in the last 15 years.

Production increased exponentially, from 2 million tons of plastics in 1950 to 448 million tons by 2015.

Production is expected to *double* by 2050.

Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations.

Amsterdam's city council voted to shut down the city's cruise terminal to reduce mass tourism.
The city: Yes, the cruise ships do bring in €100 million per year, but half of that is for their fossil fuel suppliers here. And they cause a lot of air travel to and from Amsterdam.
