I wonder if you can also use the climate emergency as an argument to reduce landfill etc with right to repair. Make the arguments for data sovereignity with local data centres built in an ecological way. openuk.uk/patchworkkilt/

Microsoft continuing it's frankly predatory behaviour. Thread on how this will abuse poorer consumers.

Microsoft added Buy Now Pay Later into Edge (and so Windows 10 and 11 base OS), a thing which is known to be abused to harm people.

The tags on the post on Microsoft’s website say it all. Keep speaking out.

The customer *isn't* always right.

There. I've said it.

As reported by @derspiegel and @politico, Nextcloud has filed a complaint with the EU as well as the German anti-trust authorities over the behavior of Microsoft.

Interviewing for software positions is even more of a buzzword bingo these days. Throw in the stupid tests, personality questions, and rampant age bias, and you have a good recipe for no innovation, repeating mistakes, and reinventing the wheel.

Most companies want to improve quality and productivity without making any changes (and certainly without measurement!).

The newly-agreed #German government coalition called for a Europe-wide ban on public #facialRecognition and other dangerous biometric #surveillance, as part of negotiations over the forthcoming #AI Act.

Poorly designed regulations cause more problems than they solve. To assert control over online platforms, government in #India granted itself expansive #censorship and #surveillance powers through "IT Rules" that include provisions to undermine #encryption. Now the rules are the target of multiple lawsuits. Here's why no one should back off.

Fingers crossed for a change to the brutal regime

‘Hundreds of fake Twitter accounts have spread authentic-looking lies about Castro; fake opinion polls appear alongside real ones; 300,000 voters still don’t have the identity cards they will need at polling stations.’

Here's the theory behind Europe's GDPR: if an online service wants to collect, store and/or process your personal information, it has to obtain your real, informed consent for each of those activities. In theory, this should have exterminated surveillance-based "behavioral" ads. In practice, nothing of the sort has happened...yet.

My late husband J-P was one of those who resist the attempts by marketers to shoehorn "Black Friday" into the celebrations of a country that doesn't even celebrate Thanksgiving.

He created this very simple website - please share it widely today!

did you know that #mastodon web UI has OCR built in? so when you are posting screenshots of text, a transcription of the text to put into a description of the image is literally one click away. when uploading image into a toot, just klik 'Edit' and then 'detect text from picture'. that's it.

please help sighted people. it's costing you two extra clicks.

An English language version of a story I posted in German earlier in the week... news.itsfoss.com/german-state-

Sad to see this Adobe / Docusign pseudo-security bollocks gaining ground. I guess it makes some people rich, but it adds nothing in terms of security or legal standing.

There are plenty of ways to electronically "sign" a document without trying to fake my own signature with a mouse on some proprietary website. *sigh*
