I always want to go job hunting after the daily standup.

Check out our new podcast miniseries “How to Fix the Internet.” In each episode, we’ll be joined by a guest to examine how the current system is failing, consider different possibilities for solutions, and imagine a better future. eff.org/deeplinks/2020/11/intr

Update: looks like Apple's notary service doesn't send app hashes, it sends info about the *developer* certificate. So they know who wrote the app, not *necessarily* which app it is. If they block an app it would apply to all apps signed by the same cert.

Big carmakers should have supported interoperable, standardized access to diagnostic data from telematics systems from the start. Massachusetts legislators should not let them drag their feet now that this access has been overwhelmingly voted into law. eff.org/deeplinks/2020/11/asle

However, an interest in software metrics suffers from malnourishment in a culture of willful ignorance.

On my first professional job, I observed a coworker gain management esteem, not by being a competent professional, but by adopting a facade of competence before management. i.e., by following a "work harder, not smarter" path. I have observed this at every job in my career, and if you are unlucky enough to be on a project with these individuals, you are guaranteed to be less productive with a lower quality outcome.

This is the main reason I started pursuing an interest in software metrics.

Colleague at work littered legacy code he is refactoring, over the course of many months, with TODO comments. AFAICT, he has no working design document. Asked him about one of the TODO comments, and his reply was, "A different me must have written that. I have no recollection of it." :-D

There is NO SUBSTITUTE for well written analysis/design documentation!

So apparently a single domain going down on #Apple servers makes one unable to launch non-Apple apps.

People have been sneaked a cloud OS without even realizing it, being at a complete mercy of a single, central entity.

This is a microcosm of where closed-source walled gardens inevitably lead.

#RMS was right.
