As corporations race to dominate legal cannabis, the people most harmed by prohibition are still fighting for a voice.
Kojo Koram asks: “Will the communities who bore the actual weight of the War on Drugs have any say in shaping what comes next?”

There's a good chance that this is as good as the tech will get and, despite being thoroughly dysfunctional, it'll still be the long term future of programming simply because employers would rather pay two dollars for a shitty unreliable model than one dollar for an employee.
Think about outsourcing. There was no "after the outsourcing bubble" for most western factory workers. There was just immiseration and ruined towns.
There was no "after the 2007 housing bubble". We still have housing bubbles pretty much everywhere you look. The finance markets are even less regulated. Fraud was basically legalised.
So, I'm sceptical about the notion that the software industry will "revert" after the bubble.
Unreliable models whose output is massaged into place by overseas labour will just suit them fine, even if the result is largely broken. See outsourcing
I'm guessing there won't be an "after the bubble", at least not for software dev . This might well be the future of coding in perpetuity, just at some point it'll be even shittier
This can only be fixed on a political level. A bubble pop will give the investor class an opportunity to solidify the system into place, much like after 2007
Did a collab with Adam Ragusea about "How do we stop the goshdang outbreaks?"

Periodic reminder that if your market depends on volume sales to survive, then killing affordable entry into a market means killing the market.
#Autistici / Inventati are closing down.
I am speechless.
A/I is history.
"A/I is shutting down. The Autistici/Inventati collective is shutting down and will soon discontinue all of the services we provide.
There is no easy way to announce or explain this.
Every day we stayed online after August 26, 2026, has been a victory, but now we are forced to stop."

@The4thCircle @kestral Moreover, if some of the code in your project falls under a copyleft license like GPL and was written by other authors who you do know, the terms of the license you received from them requires that you document the provenance of all changes making up the derived work, including authorship.
If you are merging AI slop into the codebase, you are violating the terms of the GPL on the code by known contributors, and thereby infringing their copyright.

> This growing rejection and refusal of technology – inside and outside of schools – is about much much more than the technology itself. It is, in part, about the loss of control; the loss of agency, autonomy, and privacy.
you might think I’m misrepresenting the idea of superintelligent AI here but no, the intelligence explosion is supposed to be a faster-than-overnight revolution that changes the entire world
I uhh didn’t make this shit up
I did learn a ton about it because anti-cult work is always good work
@Di4na @hungryjoe @zzt oh, yeah, we can tell this part of the story now because there are no longer ongoing legal matters it could affect
his manifesto was written to be a test case, in an attempt to use labor law in the service of hate. we were advised of this by Google's own lawyers (this was back when activists and management were still on speaking terms), and events over the following months bore that out
Dont forget. Bill gates got an std on epstein island, tried to hide it by feeding his wife antibiotics, she found out and that led to her divorce.
That is a lot, before we even start talking about the skeezy business practices. (Paladium, the browser wars, similar business practices in other areas, including directx vs gl)
He keeps trying to rewrite himself as a good guy. Dont forget history.
Sorry to disappoint all the people who learned that the EFF is shilling for AI companies and were planning to move their donations to the Internet Archive.
The Internet Archive is also full of assholes who are OK with boiling the planet instead of doing the right thing.

@jonpsp @internetarchive we asked SecondHandSmokeGPT, funded by Marlboro, about lung cancer. the results were a mix of useful answers, wrong turns & outright refusals.
@internetarchive like seriously, what am I supposed to feel here, IA?
you exposed a bunch of kids to a technology that leads to cognitive surrender
it gave them a bunch of fucking useless answers
training it fucked over a bunch of poor people and had a severe environmental cost
the fuck am I supposed to be feeling?
@kimcrawley When I discovered that the CEO of my former employer made business with all the Gen AI companies (and a few companies complicit in genocide to top it off), I used the next all-hands meeting to ask the CEO in front of all 200 employees:
"Did you not do _any_ background checking of your business partners, or are you fine with knowingly enabling fascism?"
I asked this after outlining how, for example, Perplexity built the "search function" for Trump's "Truth" Social and is sponsoring the far-right extremist Ben Shapiro. So it wasn't a vague, unfounded accusation. Everybody present could factcheck me.
You won't believe the shitstorm I received (after I was silenced/censored by my skip-level boss, of course) from the other employees who all jumped to defend the CEO.
My direct boss called me rude and impertinent.
I am sick and tired of "nice people" who don't even recognize fascism, and when they do, they think they can stop fascism by telling fascists, "please please please, consider not being fascist? 🥺"
