I genuinely have no idea how we can justify penalizing anybody for cheating anymore. Our society has invested so heavily in a technology that is demonstrated to cause significant problems, has inadequate safeties, with the exclusive purpose of usurping human contributions and intellect.

We didn’t just cheat off of our neighbor’s test, we cheated off of 1M different neighbors’ tests simultaneously in a span of ten seconds and we called it “progress.”

Our betters have spent decades shoving IP law and their warped ethics of digital ownership onto those of us who create but lack the power to enforce our own rights, and then they disregarded all of the rights they pretended to hold sacred the moment they could save on labor.

Then our bosses told us that we could use these helpful tools to do things faster, immediately before they started requiring us to use them for “efficiency.”

Capitalism is anti-human, and it always has been. “Work hard and gain useful skills” they said. Fucking liars.

There’s a notable vibe shift when it comes to ROI of AI coding tools in recent weeks.

As expensive as Claude is getting now, it will only get worse after Anthropic IPOs and has to impress investors each quarter.

I don’t have a high opinion of software dev in general but I’d never have expected “breaking without warning a popular backup and deployment tool is bad actually” to be a controversial statement.

Truly a triumph. Congrats.

Note to all University and College faculty: if you are pushing AI, or telling your students how "it's the future," they all hate you. They may not be saying it in your classroom to your face, but rest assured they are absolutely clowning on you outside of class.

Advice I was given in my youth:

Print your slide on a full piece of paper. Put the paper on the ground. Stand on a chair.

If you can’t easily read your slide, neither can the person at the back of the room.

It flummoxes me that 30 years into using computers to show slides, tiny fonts in slide is *still* widespread practice.

To our dismay, the artist and author Marjane Satrapi has passed away.

As she wrote, ordinary Americans and Iranians have more in common with each other than we do with either of our governments, which have far too much in common with each other.

We honor her memory and oppose the war.
