Great news that the absurd RICO charges against Cop City protesters got thrown out.

Prosecutors called everything from talking to reporters to recording cops to using encryption part of a conspiracy.

We wrote about the threat to press freedom in 2023.

I still regularly attend a local Linux Users' Group I joined over 20 years ago. Last night something happened I hadn't seen in some time--a brand new Linux user showed up with their Thinkpad looking for advice.

She was a Windows 10 user who drew the line at Windows 11 AI's invasion of privacy, and wanted a clean break. Apparently many of her friends are watching her to see how the switch goes. Interesting times...

Firefox hit me today with the fucking AI bot popups

Very late first rehearsal for my presentation at #mrmcd25 and it's not overlong :D I found a few bugs in the slides, too.

#Greens call for the arrest of Israeli president Isaac #Herzog - greenparty.org.uk/2025/09/09/g "accusing him of being part of the “Israeli government engaged in an ongoing #genocide.”" shrewd: will gain a lot of support for this

Proud that @fsfe volunteer Nicole went through this whole process with #sumup about the #GNU #GPL.

Nicole’s efforts show that individuals can have outsized positive impacts on #softwarefreedom, and many little steps like Nicole’s, when taken together, can amount to a large enough movement to further develop the #FreeSoftware movement in a positive direction.

Thanks also to @conservancy and @LaF0rge for all the work they do / did on this.

First my microwave broke. I can’t cook on the stove or oven so I went a few days without food.

Then my loaner microwave broke in a most spectacular fashion that caused anaphylaxis.

Almost as soon as I got a new microwave, construction began in the unit above me which necessitated my leaving the apartment.

Leaving my home is nearly impossible in my current state of health. It costs far too many spoons and finding a safe environment is a herculean task.

I found a place to go, but unfortunately the scented products there triggered another episode of anaphylaxis.

My baseline was demolished.

I finally returned home only to find out my washing machine was broken.

I have severe MCAS and chemical sensitivities. Laundromats, dry cleaners or laundry services are not an option.

I’m in a huge city and there’s not a single service that can guarantee scent free.

So now I’m stuck trying to hand wash my clothes while I’m too weak to stand, when I was supposed to be coming home to recover from multiple setbacks.

This is the life of someone with complex chronic illness.

Stuff that would be barely a blip for a healthy person can absolutely shatter us.

I am shattered.

I’m not writing. I’m barely sleeping. Eating? What’s that? Resting? Gosh knows I’m trying but it eludes me as well.

I want to thank everyone who’s helped support me through this. Either logistically or with messages of support.

I’m feeling pretty down but this community is keeping me going.

You guys lift me up and make me feel like I’m making a difference in the world.

When I’m suffering and in pain, that means everything to me.

I will hopefully write about this when I’m feeling better as I’m sure my experience mirrors others. But for now it’s rest, rest and then resting some more!

Texas punishes university for teaching reality after student complains that it goes against Trump's dictates. archive.md/RipBU

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

When I turned on `privacy.resistFingerprinting` in #Firefox, I didn't expect it to work *this* well!

I’ve started compiling a list on the Gaza Verified guide page of Mastodon instances that have publicly stated that they are sympathetic to the Palestinian plight and are a safe space for Palestinians:

gaza-verified.org/guide/

If you run a Mastodon server where Palestinians can feel safe creating an account without fear of it being shut down without reason, please reply to this post and let me know and I’ll add a link to your instance on the page.

Also, please take a look at the accounts on Gaza Verified and help them out if you can. Things are worse than ever with Israel forcing yet another displacement and destroying even more of Gaza in its ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

Thank you!

On "Imaginary Property" (IP) and the importance of knowing how to build things: mamot.fr/@pluralistic/11517012

A good tale on how we can't just start manufacturing things we have no experience in building.

I'm not anti-LLM. I'm just pro-thinking.

Everyone I know who is REALLY into AI uses it for reading EVERYTHING longer than 1000 words.

It's the mental equivalent of eating only smoothies, because they go down easier.

I say this with love: reading is thinking.

Stop letting slop think for you.
