Newsletter: In a media landscape dominated by algorithmic feeds that aim to manipulate and extract, sometimes the most radical thing you can do is choose to read what you want, when you want, without anyone watching over your shoulder.

Here’s how to use #RSS.

RSS offers readers and writers a path away from unreliable, manipulative, and hostile platforms and intermediaries.

It’s not too late to start masking.

You don’t have to do it alone.

There’s an engaged Covid cautious and disability community who will help you.

There’s local mask blocs who provide respirators to those who can’t afford them.

Covid is still here, and masks work!

Trump: “Drop that Digital Services Tax or we’ll stop negotiating and put more tariffs on you.”

Canada: “Okay, they’re dropped.”

Trump, today: “Cool. We’re gonna stop negotiating and put more tariffs on you anyway.”

CAN WE STOP NEGOTIATING WITH A PATHOLOGICAL LIAR NOW PLEASE?

@openstreetmap I noticed osm.org now uses #WebGL for the slippy map.

Having worked with #GPU drivers I keep that crap off on the web browser (which is as much an an untrusted context as it gets) for paranoia reasons :P

Is there a fallback that folks like me could activate?

Ghost Town by Toxic Reasons has come around in the playlist again. When you consider the band formed in Dayton, Ohio, USA in 1979, Ghost Town is a haunting anthem for the death of all of the factory towns in the USA. NAFTA is a popular scapegoat for loss of factory jobs in the USA, but corporate greed was killing them long before NAFTA.

Made a dumb little video bc the farm sector's been hopin' and prayin' that Trump "has a plan" to make tariffs go away before harvest so they don't go broke.

Yeah... look at him flailing around on Epstein. This dude doesn't have a plan for himSELF.

Hello here's a writeup of what's really happening with the new secure boot certificates and how your computer is going to carry on working just fine: mjg59.dreamwidth.org/72892.htm

Just saw a blog post called, "Winners don't use ChatGPT", where the premise was that you aren't a winner if you cheated to win. The problem with this is that it assumes ChatGPT always gives correct answers. When ChatGPT gives you a wrong answer, you're not a winner, but you're also a fool.

The reason Substack pushed a Nazi blog onto people's phones is because—as founder Hamish McKenzie said in his response to Substackers Against Nazis 2 yrs ago—he believes it is valuable and important to platform Nazi voices.

This sort of thing is not a one-off. the-reframe.com/questions-for-

"...because the law requires Category 1 services to allow users to block all unverified users from editing any content they post, the law effectively requires the Foundation to verify the identity of many Wikipedia contributors. However, that compelled verification undermines the privacy that keeps the site’s volunteers safe."

US Pol - dem leaders are useless

We didn't have enough medical privacy to begin with, but now the Trump regime, Big Tech (all of it), and Big Medicine are going to utterly shred the last vestiges of privacy.

Because they can. And because big money will be made by screwing the rest of us.

How to Leave Substack. “Unfortunately, Substack willingly platforms, and allows bad actors to monetize, hate speech and misinformation. You should probably leave Substack.” leavesubstack.com/

We just added 100 more Texas agencies using Flock Safety automated license plate readers to the Atlas of Surveillance. As police tech spreads, you can count on EFF to track it and fight for your rights.

If anyone is up for doing a #security review of Breakmancer's protocol (#cryptography, networking, handshake logic) I'd be *very* appreciative!

These are the most recent protocol docs: docs.rs/breakmancer/0.9.0/brea

It's nothing super complicated, just an exchange of X-Wing keys and a KDF, with out-of-band key verification—but *anything* can be gotten wrong. :-)

I'm currently building it for 64-bit Linux and (I think any model of) Raspberry Pi—those are the only kinds of computers I have available for testing!

If you have a Mac (Apple Silicon or older) and would like to help me test on a new platform, drop me a line. I'd be happy to provide a custom build.
