To distract from their cruelty, Republicans have been saying that these cuts won’t impact the ‘genuinely’ disabled. Only those ‘able bodied’ people taking Medicaid and sitting around playing video games.

There’s no such thing as the ‘genuinely’ disabled. This is a trope designed to make society doubt that we’re really sick. To make them see us as fakers, scammers, malingers or worse.

My latest is on Medicaid cuts and why they absolutely will harm disabled lives:

I wrote an article trying to explain why the “genuinely disabled don’t have to worry about Medicaid cuts” is completely flawed.

Of course they have to worry.

This ableist and eugenicist regime does not value disabled lives.

Just like the Nazis with their T4 program, Trump plans to target disabled people because he knows most people won’t fight for us.

Most people fear and loathe us.

Ableism is everywhere.

Within a few hours of posting, I have someone telling me it’s only the “fakers” who have to worry.

That the “genuinely disabled” will be fine.

This is why we fight. This is why we must advocate.

Because even when you spell out the risk to all disabled lives, the ableism is so pervasive that they will still believe the fascist lies over our actual lived perspectives.

Keep telling your stories. Keep speaking out. Every voice is needed.

I was quoted in this Teen Vogue article about mask bans and the harm they pose for the disability community.

This is the kind of inclusive journalism Teen Vogue has been doing for years.

If Bezos purchases them, it’ll be the end to stories about disability, trans rights, immigrant rights etc:

Former Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema was plainly working only for herself when she held office -- a key reason why she was so widely loathed by the people who elected her.

Looks like she hasn't changed.

From the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker:

Freelance photojournalist Madison Swart was shot with multiple crowd-control munitions while covering “No Kings” demonstrations in LA on June 14.

She was shot with pepper balls by sheriff's deputies while holding up her press credential and camera.

Jeff Bezos threats to buy Conde Nast should absolutely be taken seriously.

It would give him control over a number of media outlets that are strong voices in opposition of fascism (like Wired and Teen Vogue)

Under the oligarchs control they would be forced to become right wing propaganda.

Now more than ever we must support independent journalists… many of whom are speaking truth to power despite the personal risk.

If you can boycott Amazon, please do it. Send a strong message with your wallet that you don’t support fascism or the billionaire class.

If you can’t boycott, please don’t feel guilty. Many disabled people and those in poverty may be reliant on Amazon for supplies they can’t get elsewhere.

Trust that your community is boycotting on your behalf.

We’ve got you, and you need to take care of yourself in order to survive.

No guilt. We all resist in whatever way we can.

WeTransfer just changed their ToS to allow them to train AI on any files you transfer through them.

Don't use there service, especially for work that you don't have the right to relicense to them (e.g., commercial work that's exactly the most likely to create the huge files WeTransfer specializes in).

(ETA: this is already going boom so I'm muting it.)

American fascism is about escalate in massive, horrific ways -- and if you think you are not at risk, you are naive.

Big Journalism snoozes or, worse, has become a quisling collaborator.

There is still time to prevent an absolute dictatorship, but it's running short.

I have just read the following from a friend in Wales. Sue, a veteran of Greenham Common, is in her late 70s & in poor health; & yet has been subject to arrest & imposition of unreasonable bail conditions, while her partner was subject to a raid on their home by police at 3am.

Her crime? To protest peacefully in defence of the right to protest.

The United Kingdom & its constituent parts have become, under a Labour government, a police state.

Recommendations for Colorado-based bookkeepers with worker co-op experience (or looking to join a worker co-op)? Any bookkeeping co-ops in that area? @Matt_Noyes @ntnsndr

@saraislet While GenAI is the current Big Evil, I think it's important to remember even the earlier applications of TensorFlow and the like were committing big harms. Recommendation engines were the core of the nazi radicalization pipeline, and automated labeling has perpetuated harmful biases in all sorts of ways (labeling picture of doctor as a nurse if she's a woman, assigning genders to YouTube accounts based on stereotypes of viewing habits, then reinforcing those by declaring 100% of viewers of a particular video are male, etc.)

IMO the whole field of applying any kind of statistical model to things that intersect with human behavior is rotten, dehumanizing, and destructive to our shared future. At most this stuff belongs at the level of modeling physics, chemistry, and biochemical processes not complex emergent phenomena.
