But berries, fruit, tomatoes, etc that are eaten fresh can't be automated w current technology.

I know because I worked for a lot of the startups that tried!

There's no way to pick fast enough by machine to be commercially viable, without bruising so they rot before they get to the store.

I did a short video on this. For anyone who might need to hear, like, *logistical* reasons for why drafting people into farm work is bad.

Purism manufactures the electronics of our Liberty Phone and Librem Key at our facility in the US for the following reasons:

We believe China—an adversarial country to the US—should not be manufacturing high-tech electronics for US citizens nor US government security devices.

Made in USA Electronics aligns with US interests.

We believe that US Labor laws are superior to China’s.

This post by @Bonfire really piqued my curiosity:

Especially:

"One feed, many content types.
Adding articles marks a small but significant step towards realising the vision of the open social web: a digital space where you can receive, read and interact with diverse content types from a single place, rather than juggling multiple platforms, accounts, and notification streams."

Sounds AMAZING!

Right wing extremists try to destroy weather radar site. Why? Because conspiracy lies (stop calling them theories) are amazingly persuasive to people who want to believe lies and who ache for violence. wired.com/story/texas-floods-c

"On Tuesday, X users observed Grok celebrating Adolf Hitler and making antisemitic posts, and X owner xAI now says it’s “actively working to remove” what it calls “inappropriate posts” made by the AI chatbot."

Must-read post by Ken White, free-speech defender and former prosecutor, about the Trump regime's malicious and hypocritical charges against a man whose "crime" was to give out masks at a protest against the masked thugs who kidnap people off the streets..

Someone did a writeup of a bunch of "AI-powered" startups attending a pitch competition, and it:

a ) is fucking hilarious
b ) involves one of the startups accidentally screen-sharing that their patentable technology appears to just be forked from an academic's work with no credit
3) further includes a radiology company admitting they haven't consulted any radiologists lmao

Please ignore the dog & pony distraction around the #Nobel Peace Prize.

It's already been awarded to a war criminal (Kissinger), a genocide apologist (Aung San Suu Kyi), and a head of state who bombed many counties & assassinated people (Obama).

The whole thing is a performance of geopolitical hegemony, by elites, for elites. Nothing about what's happening around it recently is unusual.

There are real people with actual material needs that need your attention instead.

For today's #ThankYouTuesday, I'd like to thank everyone who supports the Fediverse. So, that means *you*. Yes, you, the one reading this.
Thank you!

The Fediverse truly is for everyone: if you don't have the skills or means to set up your own instance, you can join one of the public instances that aligns with your aspirations. If you can and want to, you can create your own instance, and thanks to lightweight (and interoperable) software, you can do it with spare hardware or very affordable VPS.
So thank you to all of you, friends of the Fediverse!

Does anybody else feel like an atheist in a 15th century monastery, abiding daily in capitalist realism? For my day job I constantly film corporate events and the like - and the whole kit and kaboodle is simulacra. Empty words dribbled by emptier people, to be consumed by empty listeners who must pretend to care about them. No less ludicrous and arbitrary than the rituals of a byzantine enclosed order.

#mattermost just decided to use a full core of my CPU so I had to kill the tab. Now it has the gall to offer me the enterprise version.
Maybe if you fix your mobile interface that every week will not let me send the message.
Or would that be rewarding failure?

I wish we had chosen a BB forum instead.
