I think this is very relevant to all these software organizations who are trying to stretch their new muscles of developer experience. I get asked TONS of questions about what constructs should be measured for developers, but you know what? Too many questions about finding the magic "content" not enough about unlocking a really good reflective self-report PROCESS imo
This narrative is the same for every violent clash at protests in the past ~seven years (maybe longer, idk): a leftist group is peacefully protesting, a right-wing group shows up and openly assaults the protesters for *hours*, and police watch and do nothing. At this point it’s a playbook being run by the violent right and police in implicit coordination, https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/05/03/us/ucla-protests-encampment-violence.html?unlocked_article_code=1.pU0.AUdX.RBfy685XvxHg&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&sgrp=c-cb

On This Day in Anarchist History we remember the Haymarket Affair; the police massacre that is widely accepted as the origins of May Day.

The dangerous Kids Online Safety Act #KOSA now has a House version, and some lawmakers are seeking to attach the bill to must-pass legislation. Legislation of this magnitude deserves to pass—or fail—on its own merits. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/05/us-version-kosa-still-censorship-bill

Congrats, the project has created a barrier to entry for anyone who hasn't been into it for years already.
Hint: give everyone a freaking #linter that satisfies your needs and let us move on to actual work, without having to redo the same stuff 8 times. Sheesh.

Lately I’ve been really hooked to #balatro.
I found out it uses the #löve2d engine, and I remembered something about Löve games being unintentionally cross platform.
And here we are: Balatro running natively on #linuxmobile (OP6 + #postmarketos + #phosh )
To run:
* Copy Steam game files from other PC using manage/browse local files
* Install Löve `sudo apt install love`
* Run the game `love Balatro.exe`
I've tagged a new release of mobile-broadband-provider-info:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mobile-broadband-provider-info/-/releases/20240407
It has updated providers, support for mms attachment size and we switched the build system to meson.
It would be nice to believe that our problem is bad behavior by the people on top and that punishing them would solve these problems. The reality is that the problems are much deeper, much more widespread, and much more entrenched.
And yes, money comes into it too, which shouldn't be the case, but punishing specific elected leaders won't change that.
Electoral Commission chief claims photo ID requirement for voting didn't cause 'any major problems' - https://www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2024/may/02/local-elections-2024-latest-results-live-tory-conservative-labour-lib-dem-green-south-blackpool-mayor-london-west-midlands-tees-valley?page=with:block-66349fc78f08f2f07401a1b2#block-66349fc78f08f2f07401a1b2 clueless: the main issue is how many people didn't even bother to try to vote because of 'voterID #uk
This means mass movements cannot have a single, well-defined message. They are open, diffuse and decentralized. Those who do not fully grasp the ethos of the movement (including people who are mentally unstable) can join in. Like anyone else, they can make statements or engage in behaviors that go against the movement's aims or are simply abhorrent. Parasitic individuals and groups often join in to co-opt the movement, to push their own agenda, or just to spew hate and incite violence.

News and social media rarely give a full picture of what happens inside protest movements. But based on my experience on campuses and at protests, the overwhelming majority of protestors are there to call for an end to the suffering in Gaza and Israeli crimes against Palestinians.

Incredible example of lying with graphs from Caltrans. The bike lane pilot on the Richmond–San Rafael Bridge reduced collisions, but they made it look like collisions increased.
Specifically, they divided collisions by vehicle miles traveled. But California's goal is to reduce vehicle miles traveled. So they took two good things achieved by the pilot, and made them cancel out to look like a bad thing. #BikeTooter
I've spent the week reading like 50+ papers on learning to remember what I know about how people learn and this is what I know:
-people are bad at deciding what to learn
-people are bad at studying. We choose the worst ways to study and we hate the most efficient ways
-people give up on learning so much. Like more than anyone believes
-people aren't clear about what their goals really are for learning and if you try to get people to set goals they don't want to
-teachers truly work miracles
